I am a Navy veteran 77-81 and have 40+ years as a A&P IA. I also have my PPL fixed wing about 105 hrs logged and maybe 350 hours not logged. I used to fly in all the personal owners aircraft after I repaired or Annualed them, the owners loved it, and I traded work on a competitive aerobatics pilots aircraft for aerobatics training. Not logged as he was not a CFI but a damn good instructor with a nice edge and Super Decathalon. Its where we found out I am a natural 6g pilot when pulling G. It was about 15 or 16 hours in the aerobatics box in total. I don't need or want a degree as I already have a BS in Computer Information Systems. I am just looking for a school to: 1. Get current in fixed wing 2. Get a ad-on rotorwing PPL, IR, and Commercial. Is SUU set up for people like me, retired and want this training including sling loads, NVG, and anything else I can get. Maybe fixed wing multi instrument after the rotorwing training. Initially atleast my attention is rotorwing. Besides currenncy training any additional fixed wing training and ratings will be later. I have been a member of S&R in the past and am planning on donating helicopter time to my local S&R or local law enforcemt agency when the need arises. I am planning on buying a 505 in the near future and would like to do my training in it if possible. Do you have a examiner on staff? Should I keep looking or are you available for someone like me? I’m 31… is there an age cap for entry into SUU? And is it too late for me to enter into the industry?

Great question Backpacker! Luckily, there is no age limit to fly. As long as you can hold a medical certificate, you’re all set! Would you like some info on how to get a medical certificate?

All it takes is a quick visit and medical examination, then you’re good to go. www.faa.gov/pilots/amelocator/ Our Outreach Team consists of current students of the program, and they would best be able to give you advice.
