Want a more walkable and bikeable city? If so, watch this to learn how Speck Dempsey can help

In this episode, you'll meet the duo behind the newest urbanism super-firm, Speck Dempsey, Jeff Speck, author of Walkable City, and Chris Dempsey, former Assistant Secretary of Transportation for Massachusetts. We talk about what prompted them to partner up and how they plan to help cities and towns create more walkable and bikeable environments. I hope you enjoy it.

Their splash page has a picture of a mural with three very dated pop cultural images. Depressingly, I'm old enough to remember all of them when they were current.

Is there a benefit to the cyclicality of American culture? Sometimes I get discouraged by how impulsive we are. We had streetcars 100 years ago (I wish we hadn't devoted the entire country to cars in the 60's)

Yep. It's truly sad what we've lost. And of course nearly everything new that has been built was done so with the assumption that everyone will drive everywhere all the time. Fortunately things are starting change, but we need to spread the word and grow the awareness that it doesn't have to be this way.
