Great tip. I implemented this for all shots within 50 yards and decided to keep both arms straight throughout the shot. My accuracy and distance control immediately were much improved.

Yea I stopped hinging my wrists with any wedges out of the fairway. Straight arms. I feel more directional control and more spin actually

Would you say that this more easily achieved with a strong grip and holding a cupped wrist through impact?

Another good way is if the shot calls for sand wedge use a pitching wedge and take a smaller swing

I made myself do this for every shot for a few months to get myself to relax and not swing with maximum power every time. My accuracy and control improved, but also surprisingly so did my distance.

Agree! Yes- check your ego when your bro says he’s hitting lob wedge from 90-100 out. Dial in the sw , pw or whatever you need for a more accurate shot. I experiment with trajectory through practice of these 1/2-3/4 shots.

Feel v real. On a full shot, you can't stop the club rolling over. You can resist the lead arm from collapsing, as you demonstrate. This may help. Of course, when you hit the ball and the ground, the club slows down so the face may stay square to the swing plane but you can not "hold it square" the forces are too great.

He just explains it weird. Technical terms would be “wrist conditions are more flexion extension and less supination pronation.” You hold off/abbreviate the follow through if you want, you don’t hold onto the release.

How do you spin the ball? I’ll hit decent shots (sometimes) into the green and they just roll forever

  • @lucasbray9507

Your wrists are turning over then. You shouldn’t need to worry about spinning if you’re not hitting into the green often. That would be the least of my worries at the moment.

Depends on how much spin but for just sticking greens… clean your grooves. Don’t play a rock hard ball if you don’t have the speed. Don’t play an old scuffed ball. Have solid, centred contact. Also depends on green conditions but that’s the general idea. There’s a fine line between low on the face and skull fucked. One will stick, one won’t. Same thing off to the sides. Basically you need to hit grooves and you need to hit the ball first with those grooves on the way down. Also slightly opening the face will help.

I call this releasing slow with body match. Often the interpretation of this is holding on hard which results in a weak flat no leverage swing. This is level 8 of 10 difficulty and takes practice. Work hard on distance first then dial this in as a progression in your game. Half the balls at the range should be with your wedges. Agree?
