    Its because most animals are driven by hunger and survival instincts. Snapping turtles, on the other hand, are fueled by raw hatred and malice exclusively.

    Oh I can fix that! In many impoverished parts of the world the local dogs can carry rabies. One deep bite and lack of access to vaccines and you have a 100% chance of dying a horrible death as your brain gets ripped apart by the virus.

    @@diiamond5919 most turtles can't do this, alligator snapping turtle is found primarily in waters of the southeastern United States, so you are more likely to meet a dog carrying rabies than alligator snapping turtle when you view the probability related to all locations on the Earth. What's ironic is that alligator snapping turtles are much less aggressive than regular snapping turtles. Alligator snapping turtles may look like the forbidden lovechild of Godzilla and Gamora, but it's an ambush predator that never actively seeks prey in favor of sitting around with its mouth and worm-looking tongue open. As long as you do not put any body part into its mouth (it WILL snap and sever whatever you put into it), you're completely safe. You can even tap your hand onto its mouth, not putting it in the mouth, and it won't attempt to chomp (Coyote Peterson demonstrated this, that madlad).

  • @tardigrade8019

    @tardigrade8019

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@joshuakim5240 it's not that they are necessarily less aggressive, it's just that they have shorter, less flexible necks. On common snappers, you have to hold them further back on they shell, otherwise they can probably reach you and try to take a few fingers. Alligator snapers just aren't able to do that.

    That's more or less the description of the *common* snapping turtle, the one shown here is an *alligator* snapping turtle, which has a similar way of catching fish as the angler fish, but even less movement and the lure is in the mouth rather than above it, also they won't lunge to bite, if you have your hand right outside their mouth, they won't go for it

    When I was a kid we were driving through Mississippi when we came across an ol' boy down by the river selling snappers out of a big cattle trough. He had one like this, only it weighed over 150 lbs.(said he'd weighed it with a fish scale and that's as high as it would read). He wanted to show it to us, so he stuck an oar out over the tank for it to chomp on then levered it up half out of the water. Couldn't raise it any higher, offered to let us have a try if we thought we were stronger, which we didn't. The end of the oar was completely shredded from earlier attempts. My dad politely declined the sale as we didn't have enough space in our van (and it likely would have eaten the dog).
