Wandering SE New Mexico in our Gladiator Rubicon

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

My wife and decided to explore a new area that we had never been to before in Southeast New Mexico. So we headed off to the Carlsbad area just to see what we could find around the Lincoln National Forest. While there we visited Carlsbad Caverns National Park, Guadalupe Mountains National Park, and White Sands National Park. We also stayed at some pretty amazing camp sites each night. For this trip we took our 2021 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon and tested out some new cold weather camping gear.

Just coming out of the tunnel to the right is a turn out. There is a trail there that takes you down into Fresnel Canyon to a waterfall and swimming hole. A place I went to regularly as a teenager.

That Passport book will keep you entertained for years! It's more than just National Parks. We made it to 10 National Parks, 8 National Forests, 2 National Lakeshores and a couple of National Monuments in the last 12 months. Some locations do not have a passport stamp, and some have multiple passport stamps and locations. Our last NP was Hot Springs a couple days after RITO. You guys should book a couples spa and get the stamp since you're right down the road!

I was at the New Braunsfels Buc-ees a couple of weekends ago. I’m in a Jeep with an Ursa Minor camper top and though I didn’t have it deployed and was just sleeping in my drivers seat they came and asked me to leave citing a 3 hour limit. The lot was virtually empty. They asked a guy across from me in a towed RV to leave as well. First time this has happened at that location.

I live here in Alamogordo. Grew up here, joined the AF and after being all over the country moved back. Lots to see that y'all would have loved. Missile tests regularly but the even crazier thing are the test track tests. Sonic booms that shake you down to your core! Wish I knew y'all were coming, could have showed y'all the good stuff to do. Ridiculous amount of off roading around here.. Thanks for showing our beautiful high desert area.

I went to Carlsbad Caverns in the early 1960's as a child and it was nothing like that is today. No snack shop or sitting area. We had a Park Ranger giving a guided tour with a flashlight. I don't think the walkways were that nice either, it was more primitive back then.

Based on your video, I think I may pay the area another visit. I have been to all the areas in your video but hey why not again all these years later. I won’t be camping out in those cool secluded areas solo but they sure look like nice areas to explore w my Mojave. Thank you two for sharing your adventures.

Get a lot of soot built up on glow plug above 7000 ft. After a couple nights we have to run it on high at a lower elevation for a little while to get it to start normally. If you gunk it up too much it won’t start. We’ve used ours a lot over the last year. Cloudcroft was the place that gave us the most trouble on restarting but it still would after a few attempts.
