Walther PPK/S - Still Relevant?

The Walther PPK/S was created due to a gun control import restriction that prevented the importation of the standard PPK. The company compensated by combining aspects of the Walther PP and Walther PPK to get past these import restrictions.
The DA/SA pistol is blowback with a single-stack 7 round magazine. It has a safety decocker with a nice, crisp single action trigger pull and a stiff double action.
A fun piece of pop culture related to the pistol carried by James Bond, but is it still relevant or a good option for concealed carry?

Still have my blue steel PPK/S (380) purchased new in 1976 for about $227.00. It has factory engraved "Made in W. Germany" on the slide & is still in good condition. It's a great reminder of the "cold war" & the "off duty" LE carry purpose that it was used for.

Less than ideal? It's a classic. You will never be a classic.

Regular PPK's are being sold in America again, thank God, Due to the fact that there is a Walther plant here now. I prefer the PPK vs the PPK's. It just looks and feels better. Especially in black.

I bought one of the Arkansas PPK/S a couple years ago as kind of a novelty. However it’s become one of my favorite carry guns! Fits easily in my deep cargo pockets and the steel magazines are small & it’s easier to carry two of those than one Glock 43 magazine. Plus I really like the long DA trigger when the gun is bouncing around in my pocket ( in a pocket holster) The PPK is very ergonomic and points naturally for me & I like having 8 rounds on tap instead of the 5 in my J frames. Never ever thought I’d carry a .380 but I’m carrying this PPK/S often.

Yes that's a beauty alright, I suppose for the money I might look at the new Beretta 80x Cheetah, but that's not really a "pocket" or a Bond gun for that matter but it is a good looking one too!

Beautiful PPKs!! Absolutely awesome info. I’m not a Walther guy but we just filmed a new gun rant with Total_Makarov with a table full of Walthers. I don’t disagree that they are awesome pistols. They’ve just never stood out to me.

I love my Smith and Wesson PPK/S. BTW that's the same one you have, which DOES have the beavertail extension. Surprised that you didn't notice that, and that you're getting slide bite. It does redden the web of my hand, since she's a little hand cannon haha. Mine doesn't like hollow points so far and will sometimes jam when feeding them. No problem yet with ball ammo.

Best used for deep concealment based on clothing options either at the shoulder or waistband due to overall weight. Often, modern firearms are simply too large to conceal without print including many 9mm subcompacts Carried for years for Federal foreign service. Disadvantage is magazine capacity, absence of slide lock, and clearing action. Careful with certain hollowpoint ammo. I have watched those untrained "pinch" extraction.

Yep just got mine and love it (first pistol I've owned, not shot though) and noticed it doesn't like hollowpoints, it has jammed or pinched as you say while feeding them. No problem at all with ball ammo so far...any tips for a newer shooter on my SW PPK/S? Also what kind of holster do you recommend?

Ah yes, all PP’s are beautiful. Whether it is small or big does not matter as much: each has its pros and cons. PPK feels better in the pocket and is the most common, recognisable classic design, the less common bigger PP oftenly has the more aesthetically pleasing tip though, as it tends to be a little bit longer than in some of the smaller PPK’s. For me personally it is very important for my PP/PPK’s to have the nice curve on the front side of the slide. I love the aesthetic which reminds me of the beautiful tidal wave with its front curve: note, that not all PPK’s have that, while most PP’s do - there are plenty of of PPK’s out there with a squarish tip - those can not do for me I only fancy one type of PP/PPK tip and that is the roccoco’esque, natural beauty wavy patterned tip. Although plenty of people think that PP due to its greater barrel lenght might posses increaced potency, from my gathered data it is in fact negligible. I know, at this point it is a meme in our gun communinty, but trust me, common PPK may be weak when it comes to penetration, but an ever so slightly larger PP doesn’t change that much on its own. Tbh if you want some bigger firepower and penetration just go for a modern artificial, light semi plastic-polymer larger caliber. That packs a punch, gets the job done and is easy to carry: pristine PP’s and PPK’s are made to satisfy those, who can truly appreciate them, if you don’t have that, nothing about them would make you happy in the long run anyways. Thank you for sitting through my ted-talk ☺️

It's a boring answer, but I'd probably say for most people a Glock 19 would be a good first carry pistol. It's not my personal choice, but it is hard to go wrong as a starter gun with parts/magazine/holster availability.
