@@anomaly864 It bums me out we'll probably never get one. They only release it on niche products that might not even sell because of it.
Nice idea...but why make it single stack? Consider that Ruger packs 12 rounds into the much smaller LCP, I can't think of a single good reason why Walther couldn't have made this 12-15 rounds. Then it would a perfect competitor to the Ruger Security 380 and the Cheetah. Seems like the single most glaring oversight in the design, when everything else was so well executed.

Because, contrary to Dan's assertion, it is a slightly warmed-up PK380, which was a single stack. They crammed 1 more round with a Magguts-like trick, but that's about it.

There is something about having a double action hammer that takes some space around the grip, and they want the grip to be thin. It might have been possible to go beyond a single stack if it was striker fired.
New and improved PK380.
I own a PK380, and it may rattle a bit, but it feeds everything I put through it. My hands are slowly developing arthritis and the recoil is very manageable so it's not going anywhere.
Looks like a sweet piece, but I won't give up my Bersa Thunder in 380 which holds the same with the pinky extender mag.
We are all waiting for the PPS M3.

I stopped holding my breath for Walther 5 years ago.
My LCP-MAX has a 10 round magazine, light to carry, easy to shoot and is American made. My only 380 pistol that rides in the pocket 24/7... I think that's where the 380 ACP belongs, not midsize or full size handguns. But options are cool.

My LCP Max has 12-round mags. If Walther made this 1.5 stack holding 10 or 11, they would have ensured its success.
Definitely reminds me of the P22 but in 380.

I only own one Walther it's the PPS M2 LE love that pistol and the way it fits in my hand.
IDK man. Capped at 9 rounds is a bummer when the security 380, lcp max , and the 365 380's all hold more and are more concealable. Not understanding the thought train behind this one. This one Im guessing maybe less recoil, maybe?Correct me if Im wrong.
👍👍Thanks Dan, you always do a great job on your reviews.
Walther is missing the boat by coming out with guns like this and the PDP-F. In my opinion, if they would come out with a 9mm PDP style 13 round micro, it would make them a fortune!

I just got one of these- it’s a solid firearm so far. Fits very nicely in my pocket holster and fits great in my large hands.
Excellent Review! Thanks Brother!! Merry Christmas.
I kinda like it, especially when you took it apart and showed the decent amount of metal for the slide to ride on. And the EZ rack is definitely a plus, could benefit a lot of shooters!
Merry Christmas Dan, Great review! Would love to see a review comparing the PD380 and the Security 380.

I **liked** Walther before they gave up on innovation and stopped listening to their customers.
Thanks for covering everything for us, Dan. My observations: Interesting how 10 years ago everyone was making .380s as small as possible and they virtually caused the extinction of .25 ACP and .32 ACP handguns with very small .380s. Now everyone is making .380s the size of small 9mms. I guess the market for a controllable and easy to manipulate .380 is larger than I would have guessed. 🤷♂But...that's a good thing! I LOVE DA/SA or DAO hammer fired handguns for concealed carry. So much so that I will not _carry_ anything BUT a DA/SA or DAO hammer fired handgun. (revolver or semi-auto) That said, a DA/SA semi-auto _should have a hammer drop_ feature, even more so than a safety of any kind. For example, the SIG P226/228/229 handguns have a hammer drop, but no safety. That was a big reason I chose a SIG P228 for my plainclothes duty handgun for 19 years. Safeties can be in the wrong position at the wrong time. I prefer relying on the DA trigger pull as a safety. Make the gun work like a revolver...pull the trigger to shoot, STOP pulling the trigger to make the gun safe. The nonsense about "What if someone takes your gun? Maybe they won't know how the safety works!" doesn't apply to concealed carry. "Concealed" has a meaning. No one is supposed to KNOW you have a gun TO take, unless you take it for USE, in which case the safety should be "off" anyway. Walther WILL have problems with this. There WILL be negligent discharges, because people WILL "drop the hammer" and forget to engage the safety first. Walther has been making DA/SA handguns with the hammer drop, slide mounted safety for almost ONE HUNDRED years! Why did they change that?!?!? Just use the PP/PPK type safety/hammer drop OR the hammer drop only (best choice) as on the SIGs. Merry Christmas!!!!!

100% nailed it. I hear this is umarex production similar to the pk380. The more i learn about this gun the less i want it and the worse it sounds. Seems like the illusion of a hammer block safety will give someone the false sense of a decocker leading to discharges.
Looking forward to seeing you shoot it., looks like a quality firearm. Wish they would make a DA/SA in a micro version like a Hellcat in 9mm, I think there would be a market for that.
Looks like another solid option from Walther. Thanks Dan
Thanks for the video !
You're first again Dan reviewing this gun , first time I saw this was in the December issue of shooting illustrated magazine.
I really like walther so ill definitely check it out. Im really considering the double stacked glock 380 though
Very nice option! I like it. 👍 I will be thinking about picking this one up.
I just bought a PDP full size but I'm still in the market for an EDC. Can't wait to see you put some rounds through it & hear what you think. Maybe do a limp wrist test if you're feeling up to it? Merry Christmas!
Its an umarex production masquarading under walthers name. The shields on the slide by the ejection port means umarex. Walther uses an antler.

Yup. Walther has fallen so far. I used to love their guns. I still will never sell my PPS and PPQ paddle release guns, but they stopped innovating/competing years ago.
I bought a P22Q for my wife. It was my first Walther (but, I've shot a buddy's PDP-F, and was impressed). I love the feel, and the mechanics, of the pistol. A well made firearm.
There is a market for compact 380 pistols. Some people can't handle a larger caliber or shoot it well. Some people limp-wrist a 9mm but shoot a 380 fine. Or they can't shoot a micro 380 well but they shoot a compact 380 well.
9mm is preferred but with modern 380 ammo I never feel defenseless carrying it. In Florida's hot humid weather I wouldnt fault anyone even for carrying even a 22. We cannot layer clothing especially in summer so it makes concealing a chore. Small is king here.
Wish they would bring paddle mag. release for the 9 PDP family. Until then, my P99c and paddle PPQ will do.
Thank you
Looks a lot like my Walther P22 pistol. I personally don’t like the placement of the safety as it’s difficult to actuate while maintaining your firing grip.

Exactly, it's annoying, just like the beretta 92's. They both shot well, but the safty placement is inconvenient in comparison to other stlyes
Couple of ideas for the "Is This Gun Still Relevant" Series - Walther PPK/S, Colt .45ACP Government Model, Browning Hi-Power 9mm, any medium-frame .357 Magnum revolver. All classics, but a little long in the tooth for most new shooters. Thanks for the new series.
finally someone made another true ambi gun and none of this swappable stuff
Great review Dan, but keep the gun! I'm just not a .380 fan. Did pick up my PDP 5" full size & the PDP F 4.5'. WOW, they are awesome! The F is for my wife's CHRISTMAS present. If you don't make another video before CHRISTMAS, have a Merry one Brother & shoot on!!
Love the Description of this KZread channel. Much Love you beautiful soul. *Bing Bang*
I still think Walther should do an update to the P99AS with new grip texture (and leave all else the same) rather than discontinue it.

I looked at one today at a local gun shop. For $800 they offer the handgun with "FINAL EDITION" stamped on it, a hard case, and a Walther souvenir coin. I would have preferred just the handgun and at least two 15 rd. magazines for about $500. I don't need the coin or the case, or the final edition stamp or the stupid coin. That gun isn't that much of a classic to justify all that. I would have felt like I was signing up for the Dork of the Month Club buying all those cheap extras with the gun for a inflated price.
@barfo281

@@lanceblinent7909 Yeah, the Final Edition is a bit silly, but it's a callback to the first run, which were available in the OD green/black. Still, the P99AS and the P99AS Final Edition can be found online for $650 or less (new).

Thanks Dan for the review, merry Christmas from se Mi. It is a very good looking handgun but, I think the Ruger security 380 is a much better value and performer. The security 380 mag capacity is increased, the sights are very good, and it is also easy to rack.
Fort Smith. Walther’s US factory is about 5 min from me right now. Very interested in their PPQ Q5 Match. Its supposed to be one of the most accurate 9mm out of the box. Also the 4.5” PDP look good to me. Of course the stainless James Bond PPK 380 is a classic 👌🏼👌🏼
I appreciate it's not another 9mm. Or a race gun. Yet, I cannot do slide mounted safeties. 380 is great when you get more barrel length.
Thanks for the informative video. I couldn't carry this because the direction to remove the safety is the opposite direction from the 1911. I've got muscle memory, stroke thumb down during draw to fire.
Very nice gun;ideal for CCW.
Would love to see a new style PPS!
The price is not too shabby, looks good.
I wish I could find a 9x19 with a similar configuration in current prouction. Hammer fired, DA/SA or DAO eith an exposed hammer. I like this a lot. I think they did a great job on it.

Ergonomics and paddle mag release are both positive features. Accessory rail is unnecessary on a concealed carry pistol (but for some reason, lots of folks insist on a rail). No slide-stop lever and the slide-mounted safety are definite non-starters for me. I'll stick with the CCP M2.

I have Arthritis and neuropathy in my hands. This is one of0 a few guns that I can operate comfortably. I tried many guns. Being left handed I usually look at ambidextrous guns. The only thing I feel that would improve this gun would be a double stack magazine. The gun is reliable and makes a great daily carry gun for me. I think Walther did an awesome job, especially for a person buying a first gun or with hand issues
Hello Dan, I like the firearm, 380 is fine for me, I will look for it next time in store. Thanks

Love walther firearms but this one is meh, I’m still waiting for them to come out with PPS m3 with similar features/ higher capacity than the m2 version
Another company that made such cosmetic changes was Beretta. Just like Walther with PK380, they updated Nano to look like APX (and called it "APX Carry"). Look how many people in the comments are deceived.
