Cool fact, humans who have lost a limb, such as an arm, also still try to move it. They say they can still feel the whole arm and move the individual fingers even though nothing is there. Others feel pain because their hand feels like it is in a permit fist and the muscles that are not there cramp up. They have to be taught to unclench their non-existent hand. The brain is crazy.

Yeah after my dad lost his legs from diabetes he kept feeling the pain. Until he died of heart failure in 2005. Also caused by the diabetes. But he hated doing the insulin shots.

RE: Christmas and animals... we have a cat who is obsessed with the tube thing we use to water the Christmas tree. When we start setting up for the season, he gets increasingly excited until we actually bring the tree in and put it in the stand. Whenever we go to water it, he dashes under the tree and fixedly watches the water go down the tube into the stand. He knows the "Season of the Water Tube", and is eager for it to happen year to year. It's one of the funniest things I've ever seen in any of my cats.
