🇺🇸 Walls of Shame: The US-Mexican Border l Featured Documentaries

Ойын-сауық

A border of more than 3,000 kilometres separates the US from Mexico - but it is defined not only by physical barriers made of concrete and steel but by an immigration policy which is failing to address the issues behind illegal migration. Despite the US spending billions of dollars on border enforcement, the lure of work sees illegal migrants enter the country at a rate of 850,000 a year. A series of walls along the Mexican border were designed to stem this flow but based on current estimates it has failed. Instead, the walls have re-routed human traffic into remote desert areas where people risk their lives in deadly conditions attempting to enter the US. This film shows what US immigration policy looks like on the ground for the people making the perilous journey for a better life, and for the Americans who call this borderland home. Update: Since this film first aired on Al Jazeera English in 2007, the US continued to increase spending on border security. At no other time in history has there been as many border patrol officers on duty as there are today. And now the authorities are bracing for a new challenge: children. Since 2014, the number of families and unaccompanied children apprehended at the border keeps skyrocketing. Young people are filling family detention centres near the border, having fled poverty or extreme violence in Central America. And today the issue is taking centre stage in this US presidential election, with Donald Trump calling for more walls, leading some migrants to say they will cross the border now before it may be too late.

@@LautaroTessi so unless someone puts up migrants and feeds them, they can’t possibly have compassion? That’s not how compassion works. In regards to your original comment I haven’t heard any sane adults argue that we should just let everyone in or not have a border. What I have a problem with is that Trump and company wanted to get rid of DACA and deport 700,000 people ( high school grads or honorable discharges to qualify for DACA btw). And I have a problem with the way Trump and his supporters feel the need to villify and insult an entire continent of people in order to pander to bolster support for his dumbsht border wall. By the way that’s working out great isn’t it? 450 miles and 15 million dollars later they are climbing over with ladders or cutting right through it (some parts of the wall you could kick and break through.)Might as well have used cardboard to build it. I hope you understand the problem now Lautaro.

I am not defending coming illegally but from the perspective of many of the migrants I DO actually understand but I understand and support sending them back more. Legal immigration is totally broken and out of reach for most. It's easy to just say, "come legally" but it's virtually impossible for most poor people. My husband is from another country, and he was taken as a child illegally to Canada, so I have some knowledge from dealing with his situation and that of so many in his community even here in the US. This video also does not mention that that most of the migrants crossing from Mexico are not even Mexican lately. Mexicans still are the single largest contributing nation but only make up about 38% of illegal migrants as of end of 2022. Mexico's economy had improved (this was the trend before COVID, not sure about now) and not quite as many Mexicans are attempting to cross illegally, they are from other countries in Central and South America and other random countries. Lawlessness in Central America is a huge contributor.

I think a good solution would be making it easier for people to come here on work visa's and tax their checks. Give them 3 month pass and make sure they are not getting into trouble and then extend it for 1 year and so on till their citizen application processed. Unfortunately most the perks for business hiring illegals is paying them less and under the table.

For most of human history people figured out how to provide that to themselves. Now there is this new idea that someone else should be providing it for them? Why? Isn't that enabling people to exist and reproduce without putting in the work that for most of human history has been associated with survival? That's not healthy. When you become dependent like that, you become enslaved.

Far Muse problem with that statement, those are tourists second is that no it is not a human right to asylum seek, but even then we don’t have problems with people who migrate through the port of entry, legally, it’s the illegals that make up a big percentage of our population but even then, our main concern is the cartels, with mass human trafficking and killing and raping of innocents who give everything they have to them, also the drugs that pass through, not to mention the massive influx of kidnappings reported in the border towns like Brownsville and the valley.

Before we arrived at port we the crew had to surrender all the religion relate book 📚 bible. The small store at the boat was shut down. They the Arabs did not let us step on their lands. They argued ours documents were not good enough. The only contact we had with people there were Filipino people the were the workers there. Arabs with white turbans used to come to the boat for business I guess. Philippines 🇵🇭 told us that they were there by contract and after a certain time they strictly have to leave. How can Christians I migrate to Saudi Arabia when they don’t let us keep bibles in our boats? You certainly don’t know what you are talking about or deliberately lying 🤥.......
