Wallisian, or ʻUvean is the Polynesian language spoken on Wallis Island (also known as ʻUvea). The language is also known as East Uvean to distinguish it from the related West Uvean language spoken on the outlier island of Ouvéa near New Caledonia. The latter island was colonized from Wallis Island in the 18th century.
Futunan is the Polynesian language spoken on Futuna (and Alofi). The term East-Futunan is also used to distinguish it from the related West Futunan (Futuna-Aniwan) spoken on the outlier islands of Futuna and Aniwa in Vanuatu. This language is a member of the diminishing set of native Pacific languages, it is classified as endangered.
If you are interested to see your native language/dialect be featured here.

The first is exactly like the Tongan language. Understood everything perfectly.😍
Wallisian had more Tongan influence and Futuna has more Samoan influence. So cool

The two islands were populated by ppl of Samoan descent. Then Tonga conquered 'Uvea during the 16th century, Futuna was next but they managed to push them off.

@@nando_ugt Futuna didn't push them off they defeated the Tongans. As was the case for some of Tuvaluan islands that defeated Tongans who came to their shores around the 16th century. Uvea also eventually rebelled against Tonga free themselves

yes they are
🇼🇫🇼🇫🇼🇫🇼🇫💪 Proud to be Wallisian / Futunan
'Uvea Futuna were part of Ancient Tongan Empire 90 percent of Villages named by Tongan Navigators since Lapita also Talietumu were built much earlier from stone wall 1400AD by Kau'ulufonua Fekai and temple mound Kolopelu erosion 😊
Hugs from Brazil. Wonderful vídeo.
is the word "selo" (heaven) of Spanish origin? ("cielo" - heaven)
@isaialeuila9327

could be, because France colonized them

On utilise le mot " Selo " qui vient du mot " Ciel " en français pour parler du paradis et quand on veut parler du ciel, alors on dira " Lagi "

@@warennfnf2219 can you say it in english lol

@@isaialeuila9327 Yes, so we use the word Selō to talk about Heaven, which comes from Ciel : Sky in french And if we want to talk about Sky, we say Lagi
@isaialeuila9327
Жыл бұрын
@@warennfnf2219 I see, makes sense. In tongan they translate heaven to Hevani whereas Samoa and other Polynesian languages use the traditional word "lagi"
If Uvea settled Futuna 300~ years ago, that's actually quite a lot of shifts!
Can you do something about one popular constructed language "Ido"
This language is somewhat similar to the language of my tribe, the Sasak tribe, Indonesia - Lombok
Pleeeeease do old Marathi 🙏🙏🙏
Because of their similarities, Uveans and Futunans can speak and understand each other 😊 🇼🇫
Walis and Futuna has 34 islands I counted,
basically same language

Well, "nima" is close enough - [n] and [l] are easily switched across languages.
Andy, you as a Filipina, can you understand some of the languages?

Similarities I noticed as someone who speaks Tagalog, though I’m not sure if they’re all correct. In parentheses I put sounds I found similar between the words: da(lawa) = lua, first syllable has gone away (ta)t(lo) = tolu, final t has gone away lima = lima (an)im = ono, final i and m have gone away pito = fitu, p has changed to f walo = valu, w has changed to v (si)y(a)m = hiva, h has changed to s, y has changed to v, and final m has gone away (ta)t(ay) = tamai, second t has gone away cielo (derived from Spanish) = selo sala = agasala, prefix has been added amen (derived from Spanish) = amene Needless to say, there isn’t much shared vocabulary
