Walleye Jigging the St Clair River-What to Use and Where to Fish

Спорт

The St Clair river is one of my favorite walleye fisheries. Especially when it comes to jigging! Nothing is quite like feeling the slightest peck at a bait and setting a hook into a fantastic walleye.

I know this an older post but I have fished this area for over 40 years and I still fish it to this day. This is a fantastic fishery and all the advice Dom is providing is spot on. I fish from a couple miles north of the bridge to a couple miles south in the river. This is a great multi species area. People are friendly and willing to help. Give this area a try. You won't be disappointed.

What do you think about using fire gel on the jig head? I have had good luck using the anise scent. Great information! Thank you for the video.

If I had some with me, I would glob it on there good! Extra scents and oil could go a long ways on some days.

I’m heading down to PH on Friday so I’m going to drowned some bait. I need to take 3 dogs to the groomer it was a toss up between fishing and hookers LOL well fishing is winning, I’m going to fish by the bridge off the shore what do you suggest? I’m sure I’m going to need a heavy sinker, just put a spinner on a leader? I really never fish from shore. I normally fish out of Harbor Beach the deep water or in Sebewaing in the Bay.

Any suggestions on a port or ramp location as a good point of entry into good areas of st Clair river Michigan American side? I’m new to fishing outside my home town in western New York where there’s a diversity of species.

Depends on the day, some days you’ll be okay and others a 16ft bass boat is too small.

Dom what do you suggest for fishing off the sea wall. I use to do it years ago with a heavy river pole, 40 lb mono but I dont recall what I used...crawler harness, bombers, jig heads? I appreciate your advise

Masi Palazzolo Marysville or Port Huron under the bridge are always a safe bet. Cast a jig (5/8 or 3/4) with some sort of grub or minnow bait. Allow it to flow with the current, and with a tight line, pop it a little bit. You can unload the power on some walleye down there.

The river starts at Port Huron and ends at Trenton, not Algonac, which is just a few miles from Port Huron.
