Wall Mounted TV Installation (code compliant)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This video shows you the right way to mount a flat-screen TV on a wall for the lowest cost. Unless you want to hire an electrician, you need to use a kit that provides code-compliant electrical wiring in the wall, like I used here.
Products demonstrated in this video:
Power Kit: amzn.to/2tC3mQJ
TV Mount: amzn.to/2tBNzkM
10-foot HDMI Cables: amzn.to/2tIyBdg
Pre-wired Power Kit (if you don't want to supply your own wire): amzn.to/2tIUOIn
The disadvantage of the pre-wired power kit (other than the price) is that it is a fixed length of wire between the upper and lower panels. An unwired kit (like the one I used) allows you greater flexibility.

You could have put the mount on 2 studs. You can slide the tv to the correct position and in most cases never know the mount is off center since the TV is so big.

I couldn't tell in the video, but I usually get an outlet that has a built-in surge protector and alarm in it if it does fail.

HandyDadTV Yes, that's what I meant. I like the audible ones from P&M over the Lutron with a light because you can't see it behind the tv.

Jesus Christ, you made this look so easy! GOD I envy you right now. Since your tv is a 55 inch, did you screw onto studs, or use toggler anchors, or wall anchors?

+Sergio Garcia Regardless of size, you ALWAYS want to attach at least one set of bolts to a stud. It’s okay to use toggle bolts in a secondary location just to hold it tight to the wall. But I wouldn’t mount a TV with drywall anchors alone.

Do you have to drill into a stud in order to hang a TV on the wall? Will drywall itself hold a big TV up?

  • @handydadtv

Yes, you must secure the TV mount to framing, whether it’s to existing studs, or you open the wall to add some kind of bridging between your studs. Drywall alone WILL NOT hold a TV.

If you are mounting a newer TV, probably up to about 65" that is pretty light, you will be fine mounting into drywall alone as long as you use the correct anchors. Pick up some heavy duty snaptoggle toggle bolts and get 4 into the drywall, they will hold hundreds of pounds.

Do the black and white go to any screw?

  • @handydadtv

Follow the directions. Black should go to a darker screw (often brass). White goes to the chrome (silver) screw.

Kinda shitty handy man wiring ! Don't think that wiring would pass code in MA?

  • @handydadtv

    @handydadtv

    6 жыл бұрын

It should, assuming MA follows the National Electric Code.
