I was taught to layout out all your plates an nail them down with 8's an detail everything all at once, use a Channel marker or speed square to mark all corners an channels, I never use a tape to cut plates because you snapped the floor out an it tells you where to cut everything, or to layout studs, only to detail doors an windows. Have you ever used a layout stick? I can layout all studs for the whole house in know time, always stack everything. I mark the plates an the floor, pluck everything up go stack it in a corner an start framing. Check out Bigfoot tools I think that's where I got my layout stick it is such a time saver.. just another way of doing things an that's how I was taught not right not wrong. Have a good day an keep up the amazing hard work an quality.

So different from how we lay walls out in Iowa USA, love seein how others do it

for someone who already know framing this is probably a good tip.. iam a carpenter (framer) in sweden so i do understand.. btw in Sweden we dont have "framer",drywaller" etc.. a "carpenter" in sweden do all the framing, drywall,siding,insulation and poly.. etc

I always use my tape when im laying out, an never have my top plate or bottom plate break less than 4'. Then again im American an when my houses get walked it doesn't look like a fuckin box of orange spray paint blew up inside.

I got the same Milwaukee speed square you are using in this video and I'm thinking about getting into house construction and I'm wondering if you have made a video or if you could make a video explaining the different uses of a speed square and why there is a square with rounded corners in the middle of the speed square

Awesome content! Finally someone else calls them Jacks besides me. I'm tired of hearing them called trimmers. If your going to call the others King studs then you should be also using Jacks and Cripples.

@@tiffanywall4178 Those are hip and valley Jacks. Jack studs are in walls next to a king stud in a door opening. The jack stud is what supports a header which people are calling a trimmer. What your referring to is a hip or valley jack that goes into the ridge beam of a dormer or any hip style roof two completely different things.

Why the header on the bottom? First time seeing that..usually it’s cripples there no?

Bruh, mark all your wall intersections and cap plate measurements on the top plate before you even start laying out. So much easier and none of this squaring every wall across the plate then scribbling it out.

Questions, all that water and Mudd in the wood floor does it affect later on after the home is built?

@@jeramiedutcher6720 on the more expensive homes using a dbl bottom plate means pouring lightweight concrete for radiant in-floor heating. This cowboys paid and long gone before any de lam happens lol. I’m sure he doesn’t give a sheep’s shit about dirt either. This guy is a paid framing contractor. His warranty is for his tools and truck only lol

Why is the tyvek wrapped up on the deck? Where is your chalk line you will nail the bottom wall plate to? On that tyvek? So many things I don’t understand.

The lines are chalked on the subfloor itself. Little x cuts to expose the line at wall intersections and window openings

A lot of that is Greek, but very interesting video

Not many ppl use a center line these days. Most people are marking both sides of the stud PLUS the X for center. I like your way

Mark the studs at 15 1/4 and forward one mark Parallel with the plate showing Where the studs go But many ways to skin a cat

Anyone else call "jacks" slip studs?

Poor video. No context before video starts. Describes layout on plates but video doesnt pan to frame. Not much help here.

How do these young guys come up with the way they lay out walls, they act like if you have to make an x next to the mark, that it takes too much time, never seen any pro mark the center of a stud, so inaccurate and sloppy, i see no x's and o's for studs and jacks, no cripple stud marks and never seen anyone scribble out partition marks
