Thanks so much, Stuart! I spent two months in Galicia in 2017 and absolutely loved it. We visited Lugo many times, and it was wonderful to see this beautiful city and have a brief virtual walk around it and the Roman Walls again. We're planning to get back to Galicia as soon as possible.

You are a good walker Stuart! I know from experience that city very well, in fact I will be in the centre tomorrow morning. You showed us most of the sights in the centre, you passed the bar where my Irish friend and I sometimes play and the magnificent cheese shop! Until a few years ago it was normal to drive over the Roman bridge across the Miño but it was converted to pedestrian only when the new suspension bridge was built further down the river. It was single lane with priority to those already on the bridge. The streets are much less busy now with the virus about, it is normally a bustling place and the night life is very good. I enjoyed your tour of "my" city very much.

@@USERRINZLER There are two possibilities. First one, it comes from latin "Lucus Augusti", that's the name Romans gave to our city. Others think it can come also from the name Lugh, which was a celtic god.

Nice vid Stuart. We did a mini Argo road trip and took in the Baiona area (Portsmouth ferry to Cherbourg, La Rochelle, Biarritz, Baiona and Porto) a couple of years ago to visit a friend at his lovely self-built villa among the pines overlooking the bay and islands for a few days. Beautiful countryside and coastline. The people were very welcoming and even with English not widely spoken, accepted that my Spanish was very limited, we managed to communicate locally with lots of smiles back. Really enjoyed the area and the run down to Porto. Crossing the Pyrenees from Biarritz into Spain was also quite spectacular, maybe worth a trip for you sometime?

I think you were here a little before or a little after our Arde Lucus festival. Last year it was cancelled for the virus, there were just a few activities, with a lot of health measures, only to remind ourselves that the festival should have to be celebrated on those days. However, we changed it for an online festival, and I think it was pretty amazing, given the circumstances. If you can come back another year, I truly think you'd enjoy the festival a lot. It's a historical recreation of our roman and celtic past, with lots of activities during 3-4 days. All day, and almost all night. It's almost impossible to see all the city has to offer during those days. But it's not history all the time. In Lugo we know how to mix history and fiesta! People really enjoy it.

Great video. Lugo looks beautiful. I had barely heard of the place only because they have a football team CD Lugo playing in the Segunda Division. I have only been to Galicia once. (Santiago de Compostela and La Coruña. I was not doing the camino.). I would like to go back to La Coruña sometime. How is internal Spanish travel? What are trains and long distance buses like in la nueva normalidad. I would assume that AVE is probably quite safe as there is plenty of space to spread people out. Also in some AVE stations you have to check in and pass your bags thorugh a airport style x ray machine. In Madrid Puerta de Atocha, after you you pass security you wait upstairs in a kind of departure lounge and then show your ticket and go down a ramp onto the platform. I remember people being quite well spread out anyway so it would not be difficult to adapt. How are regional trains? P.S. León and Ponferrada also look worth visiting.Maybe someday, I´ll have to hire a car in Madrid and go for a bit of a road trip.

The north coast of Lugo province from Viveiro to Ribadeo is on lockdown. 71,000 people cannot leave the area and I presume tourists from outside cannot come in. Over 100 cases. And this happened just as the hotels were opening up. La Playa de las Catedrales, the iconic beach near Ribadeo, is in the zone. Asturias has tightened its border at Ribadeo so the virus doesn't spread into their territory.

You tricked us, Stuart. Yesterday you said that you were back in your apartment in Madrid. How did you find time to drive up to Lugo from Piornedo and then back to Madrid? I bet you were tired. Lugo is a beautiful little city, not the modern part but the area inside the Roman walls. I noticed the horrible graffitti calling for a vote for the anti-fascists. Lugo has the second largest population of Galego speakers (33%) after Santiago de Compostela (35%). That wall is about 2 kim. long and can be easily walked. Too bad though that almost nothing was said about the city. It seemed like a waste for anyone wanting to know more about Lugo. We only learned the name of the river Minho, the most important river in Galicia, which flows into the Atlantic and passes through Orense. Stuart, I hope your next videos gets better as far as information goes. There is so much history here and you ignored it.
