Walking through WORST RATED Seaside Town - Bridlington, Yorkshire!

I visit Bridlington, the 9th worst rated seaside town in the UK to see what gives this place such a bad rating. I recently visited Skegness the number 1 worst rated seaside town in the UK and didn't think it was that bad. So will Bridlington fair any better?
I walk along Bridlington South Beach and North Beach, see what the sand and sea is like, look at the cool beach huts. Go for fish and chips at Pier 6 Broadwalk Cafe for some award winning fish and chips. Check out Bridlington Spa RNLI Lifeboat Station and East Riding Leisure Bridlington which are all pretty impressive buildings. Walk along a few of the piers that Bridlington have including North Pier. I also take a walk along the main promenade to look at the amusements, games and activities.

No certainly not. I moved here 6 years ago from London. I love it here. Spring and Summer Bridlington comes alive, many tourists and everything open. In the summer the sea can be a lovely blue or Emerauld green with silver shining on the water. The skies here are stunning. Somebody here said that once u have spent an hour in Brid there is not much else to do. For a family holiday there are plenty of things to do. Arcades, funfair rides, paddling pools for kids, Pirate ship..Water slides indoor pool. Land train.Beautiful beach. Lovely walks..The Worlds not far from here for walks. Yes come back in the height of summer. You will wonder why Brid got named the worst seaside.

I visited Bridlington a few months ago for a long weekend despite having seen the negativity surrounding it. Weather was stormy and we loved watching the rough waves. I could sit overlooking these beaches for a long time and not tire. Everyone we met was so friendly and we loved it. We will definitely be back. Xx

Bridlington resident. I think any seaside town is not at its best in the 'off' season. The land train, amusements, pleasure beach are all closed, but Bridlington can still get pretty busy on summer weekends. The birds are puffins. There is a big bird sanctuary just up the coast at Bempton, where puffins nest. The housing stock around the seafront has definitely seen better days, but it is hard to attract investment nowadays. Many of those huge houses were turned into guest houses and hotels and, with the decline of residential holidays in the UK, are now often turned into flats.

The statue was the Gansey Girl knitting a gansey jumper , traditional jumpers worn by the fishermen. A lot of Northern seaside resorts come under unfair attack due to their neglect but it's simply down to the fact we don't have the same government funding as our Southern counterparts. The money stays down South and the North inherits all the crap...that's the simple truth of it my friend. You can take boat tours to Bempton Cliffs where you'll see puffins in the wild 👍

Seaside resorts have around the same scale of tourism wherever you go around the coast in England and Wales, so I disagree with that opinion. On one hand, you have people complaining it's not what it was, and, on the other, someone else saying it doesn't get investment to redevelop everything.

We have to get out of the mindset that South gets everything. There are many deprived parts in London..Many seaside towns down South are deprived. These used to be good seaside towns, not now....Many other area's down South have become slums. Northerners seem to think that London and the South get everything. This is stereotyping. I used to live down South, London..So glad that I moved here to Brid

Great video, I can answer a few questions. The lifeboat is a Shannon class, so it's quite big, it gets taken into the sea on a specialised tractor which is also housed there, the old lifeboat station was on the main road opposite the Bridlington Spa. The painted giant puffins are part of a large art exhibition in East Yorkshire, if you ask at Tourist Information, you can get a map with all the locations.I believe you are right with the concrete path into the sea, there are tidal breaks and sea defence along the north and south beach. The land trains do operate on a regular 20 minute schedule, sadly only in tourist season though, we also have one which runs from the leisure centre to Sewerby Hall which is further up the cliff line you saw on the north beach. Sewerby is a lovely place to visit along with a look in the old town leading to the Priory church. Thank you for your views on our town, it is a big contrast to look at when the summer months come.

The concrete path in middle of the beach is a old sewage pipe, the red lamp at the end is a marker for boats to be aware. Also the red lamp at the end is a tidal marker for the boats to check for depth. there used to be one further down the beach. Lots more too see. The old town is a must so much history up there the building have plaques on them on in the windows to explain the history of the buildings, also in summer months they have tours of the gardens up there too well worth a visit, also a ghost walk in the evenings. At the bottom of the old town cross the road you’ll see a huge church called the priory it has the Bayle museum, the old gate house to the church which is very good we’ll worth a visit super old. Lots of pubs up there. Check out Danes Dyke for a good walk or stop off at Sewerby hall and gardens which also has a small zoo. Bempton cliffs RSPB up there is a must see!! Flamborough is a great place lots of beaches caves to explore. I’m summer the views are great. Just a small tip when in Bridlington try the Cafe at Boyes store in king street go to the top floor the views are great the food is nice.

Don't go in Winter. To see the real vibe of this town you need to come in Summer when it is totally buzzing yet still very charming. Most of the pleasure boats, land train etc . . . are seasonal but great in Summer. A trip on the legendary Yorkshire Belle pleasure boat is essential! On this you can see the beauty of the nearby white Flamborough and Bempton cliffs which are an unspoilt beauty to behold. Bring a bicycle and cycle from The South Cliff Holiday village right up to Sewerby - it is fabulous when the sun is shining, then lounge on those loungers next to the leisure centre. Brid isn't far short (if at all) of Scarborough for a great summer day out.

I remember the launches as a kid, they were withdrawn about 1960. Lawrence didn't billet with the other airman but in the HQ of the Royal Yorkshire Yacht Squadron next to the harbour which was a hotel at the time. It is said that one of the maids found a revolver in his room while going about her duties! A mysterious person indeed.

Brid' a nice place. doing its best. Struggles with empty shops and a cash-strapped local authority, as do so many of our towns. An abundance of B&B's which have been utilised to house otherwise homeless people with no decent support network put in place has also had an impact on the demographics of the place. Nevertheless its still a nice and interesting place to visit if you aren't a complete snob! There's a lovely ice cream parlour - Tophams, which has been around for decades and is still great for a wonderful, old-fashioned Knickerbockerglory. And a great wargaming store - Mighty Lancer Games - which is one of the best in the UK in my opinion. If only some of the deep rooted problems this country is facing were addressed (a proper, joined-up homelessness and housing strategy, and the oversuplly of retail premises), it, and many other seaside towns, would be absolutely unbeatable places to live and visit.

@@everydayimeating3407 The elastic catapult presumably goes around the boat. In any case I don't think you can 'go on it' which you generally do for fair rides, except maybe if you went in the boat when it was being 'launched'. I think you'd need to be official press to swing something like that, if it were possible.

Bridlington Bridlington is the lobster capital of Europe and it's easy to see why. The town is home to a number of lobster fisherman who ply their trade in the harbour. There are also plenty of restaurants that serve up fresh lobster rolls and lobster bisques.

“ Brid “ back in it’s day was known for great fish and chips, as well as it’s seafood. It was great for kids and Grandparents alike. It is a shame that these seaside towns are shutting down. I know you like working up North🤔. But if you love seafood? Have you tried Cromer? They have some of the best seafood I’ve ever tasted.
