@@giselleh3024 Wow!! I lived on the second floor, and my friends were on the top floor. The owner of the tool shop lived on the first floor. For many years, it was a wonderful place to live ...when you lived in the building what business was on the ground floor. I loved living next to the library, near the market, and all the good stores in the area...wonderful memories

East Boston was always a big Hispanic community, for my lifetime, as well as a small section that was very Italian. I'm 35. They started gentrifying eastie in 2016. None of those condos on the water were there before then. It's still very Hispanic, but not like it was. The neighboring cities of Chelsea, Everett, revere, and Lynn are very Hispanic too. That whole area is one of the Hispanic hubs in massachusetts. Before 2016, you pretty much would see only Hispanic people in eastie. There are parts of Chelsea and Lynn like that, but eastie became a bit more mixed in the last 5 years.

I lived in Boston for 20 years, I spent probably 4 out of 5 fridays meeting friends and having Garlic Pizza and lamb at Santarpios on Chelsea St. Been there from !933, some of the Santarpios still work there I think. And building was a bakery prior to that from 1903. Was disappointed that mostly just the new was shown. There are still many streets of row houses that really represent the Italian area it was, and some Italians still live in them. But about 2000 it slowing turned into the Hispanic area it is today. I was hoping you would walk the streets of some of the old row houses that East Boston is know for. Most of my Italian friends lived there or in Sommerville. Tourist think the North end is the only Italian neighbor hood, most have also moved out of there after the big Dig.

Just recently, starting in 2016 really, they started gentrifying eastie pretty heavily, depending on where you're at. So some parts don't feel very Hispanic at all, or Italian for that matter. It's just a bunch of latte yoga people, in spots nobody else can afford. The worst people if you ask me. 🤣

Hispanic is an overall term for countries that speak spanish... a lot of those restaurants are not from the country of mexico. We don't have a lot of people from Mexico in massachusetts, like some other parts of the country. But we have a lot of people from Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, columbia, El Salvador, and Venezuela. We also have a large portion of people from Portuguese speaking countries, like Brazil, cape verde, and Portugal. They are people that would fall into different census categories, depending on who you ask, but that many people just lump into haspanic/ Latino as well.
