Note how it's not 'works of the Spirit' being contrasted with 'works of the flesh': rather, it's 'fruit of the Spirit.' Fruit takes time to grow, and cultivate - and we must abide in the Vine if we are to bear fruit of Him. Taking steps to improve the environment so you can cultivate this fruit more easily is wise: Inspiring Philosophy here on KZread did an excellent video which (if memory serves!) also touches on this topic called "Struggling with Sin": highly recommend anyone reading this to go see that KZread vid! I've a long way to go, but Jesus is worthy.
