Walking Around Southern Cross Station | Melbourne Australia

Walking around Southern Cross Station, Melbourne Australia
Southern Cross station (until 2005 known as Spencer Street station) is a major railway station in Docklands, Melbourne. It is on Spencer Street, between Collins and La Trobe Streets, at the western edge of the Melbourne central business district. The Docklands Stadium sports arena is 500 metres north-west of the station.
The station is the terminus of the state's regional railway network operated by V/Line, The Overland rail service to Adelaide, and NSW TrainLink XPT services to Sydney. It is also served by suburban rail services operated by Metro Trains, being one of five stations on the City Loop, a mostly underground railway that encircles the Central Business District. It is the second busiest railway station in Melbourne's metropolitan network, with 18.614 million passenger movements recorded in 2017/18. This figure excludes V/Line passengers who use the station.

Spending a chunk of my childhood back in 2013 living on spencer street and going to school on train. Watching this brought back soo many memories of that time. Thank you for sharing this insight. I miss Melbourne so much and I hope to visit here again in the future. I’ve had some of the best times on this station specially and seeing it I was reminiscing.

Never been to Melbourne, and don't expect I ever will. However, I do enjoy these videos, whether they be train, tram, or walking! I have seen the station on both train and tram videos, and have been fascinated by it! Great to see the area around the station! I always thought that the first place I would go if I ever got to Melbourne, would be to Southern Cross! Thanks for doing this video. It was greatly appreciated!

i was visiting melbourne from wellington, nz between 26-29 july gotta love ol' spencer st station, its huge, makes wellington station look tiny (wellingtons is about the size of flinders st stn) caught the train to geelong a city that i thoroughly enjoyed.

Wellington station? It’s not that much smaller than Spencer street. 9 platforms (originally 10) vs 16 for Spencer st. Pleasant 1930’s art deco styling & mosaics and lots of shade and shelter and a convenient pedestrian underpass to the bus terminus and parliament buildings and the main shopping street. A very good facility for a city of Wellington’s size.

In the first few minutes of this video, you ran into a lot of boxing fans there, going into Docklands stadium for the Haney vs Kambosos fight. A lot of Melbourne Greek fans for Kombosos there. Unfortunately, Kambosos lost this one. Good timing, as after the fight there were some skirmishes outside of the stadium. Nice video, know the place well. Been there a few times. Nice one !

Hi bud. Absolutely beautiful walk tour. I love these types of places where people came from somewhere or going to different destinations 💕. I dunno mate, but i have this weird joy in and around transport stations either bus, trams and trains.. and absolute euphoria (yea,😁 Lol!) in Hotels and Airports! I guess it is becoz i love to travel so much. 😍 Are some of these trains bound to regional areas in Victoria? Thanks so much as always 😊 your video is a five star rating. 👍👍

Hate to be negative. But I found this station a bit dingy and that it felt out of place with the surrounds when I used it. I much preferred Flinders street. Or central station in Sydney.

I want to get a train to Bendigo but this is all so confusing to me 🤪 I wish they had someone there that could show me how to pay and walk me to where the train is boarded. Our public transport system presumes people already know all about it but for those that don’t it’s a minefield.

Just talk to anyone in uniform or go to one of the multiple customer service desks at most railway stations in the state and they will help you. It doesnt assume people know where they are going, it assumes people will have the thoughts to ask for or look for help if they have issues.
