It depends on if you want to explore Melbourne or Victoria as a whole. Melbourne is rather central and you can pick any direction and find something interesting. North West- Wimmera and the deserts. North: The goldmines city of Bendigo with all its grand 19th century buildings. North East- Snow capped mountains. East The 90 Mile Beach. South East: Wilson's Prom (the Southern most point on the mainland) and Phillip Island South: The Mornington Peninsula South-West Geelong, the Great Ocean Road, Otway Mountains. West: The Grampians
