You are not only an animator, but also a real artist who know how to draw and breakdown an illustration. Absolutely incredible talent!
This "lock transparent pixels" trick in Photoshop is so handy! I used to literally create a clipping mask for each layer before to make shading. Thank you big time!

Amazing work! Thanks for the super clear explanation.
awesome! Love the tip with the cc bend effect :O I always used the puppet tool and it can be such a sisyphus work. I just signed up for skillshare - I definitly want to improve as motion designer as I feel a bit stuck at work right now. I'm a junior and have just around 2y experience but work alone so I don't have any design feedback ever. I guess I will try to share my work I will do with skillshare tutorials to get feedback. Can't wait to start. You are making me want to learn more! Every video has so many little tips which can help tremendously in improving workflow and save time. Especially right now when we work from home and it is hard to keep motivating oneself.
Thank you ben, I was thinking that only Illustrator can drag and play in AE, but Photoshop can do it too, so awesome tutorial ben !

last frame Sam first frame / walk cycle
I'm in no way an animator (is that how it's called?) but i watched all your videos because they're so entertaining and inspiring
I find it a lot easier to animate the character walking with the feet fixed on the ground and adding the slide in the end. That way the individual curves of movement become more noticable.
do you mind if you tell me what you use about the brush set in this project? because had an awesome impact on the illustration.
@BenMarriott

I'm not exactly sure what brushes were used by Sandro in the design. I used the default soft round brush set to dissolve for the shading, and suspect they did too :)

Flawless as always mate, such a inspiring and amazing process. Just one question: why did you duplicate those layers so many times? loopOut the precomp would not have the same result? or there is a special reason that i dont catch?
@BenMarriott
4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much. That method gives a dropped frame at the end of the loop, which work's fine for a lot of purposes. But when working on 2's that can get really chaotic and hard to adjust too. I wish there was a better way of looping comps, I find copying doesn't take that long and works all the time. It's a very inelegant solution, but it's the best I've found. :)

@@BenMarriott makes sense, thanks for the answer! you're the man!
very nice. the only problem is the fire. it feels too rigid, needed some more bumpiness/twirling.
would anyone be able to tell me how to color-code the frames in animdessin?
6 to7 hours!?!? :o
Amazing, as always. I was wondering throughout watching, if any of these hand-drawn steps could also be done in AE and would it be necesarily faster? Like the dissolve/ grain shading could be masked shape layers that are done frame-by-frame in AE instead, would that still be as time-consuming as doing it hand drawn? Or the wave on the cloak using a few wave warps and some other tricks? Was this the most efficient way of animating this illustration for you personally, or did you just want to share your hand-drawn process? Although I also get that you'd wanna do it hand-drawn to preserve the feeling / intention of the illustrator :) Either way. I LOVE IT.
I want to know where you bought the brush you used! The brush has a really dramatic effect :)
did you redraw the head and flower pole thing too? xD or did you just redraw the cape and legs for animating? How did you get the head and flower pole to move if you didn't redraw it? :0
first of all: I love you man! Love your work & your tuts, A question: is there a practical reason to copy/paste all the frames instead of using a loopOut expression?
Hello Ben!! Thanks for the awesome vid as usual. But i want to know how you create the legs in photoshop. I was using animate and is not working for my tablet. Maybe photoshop can be a good option. Thank you!!
Hi Ben, latent I’ve been almost binging your video’s and tutorials and I really love them and learn a great deal because of them. But I’ve been wondering how you installed Animdessin2 to Photoshop and how you combine it with using your Ipad? I would really love to have this plug-in to start making some more stop motion animations with Photoshop. Could you explain how you do that? Great thanks for all your amazing video’s and help.
You’re the fuckin master!!
Hi Ben, I really love your work and enjoy your videos, I only have one question, how do you import the PSD files so the layers and the timing has the same editing as in photoshop, as for me when I import my files to after, I have to break everything down again adjust the layers put them into order, etc, is there any plug-in or other trick for that? Thanks in advance, I appreciate it if you have the time to answer (or anybody else who reads this and knows the trick ;) )
Plz tell us how to use one walk cycle again and again so that we can save our time plzz sir
I have a question. I really want to get into animating, but to be honest my drawing ability is quite poor, especially on my wacom tablet. I can barely get lines to go where I want them, making even simple stick-figure animation a little frustration. Do you suggest I stop and improve my drawing first before animating or just stick with it and hope I improve both skills as I go? I haven't really made too much progress with either skill and I just want to make stuff that looks cool. Thanks in advance and I really liked this video, awesome stuff!

Сan't you go to Interpret Footage > Loop (x times) instead of copying ? It works for sure if you import your animation as a .psd (not comp). Props: if you don't like how it looks you can change the time framing inside PS and it automaticly corrects in AE.
@BenMarriott
4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the trouble is with it not working with compositions . :( If it did that would be the dream. It's definitely the best way to loop footage :D
@yelyel6897
4 жыл бұрын
@@BenMarriott But why do you need it as comps? You can save it as separate psd's with just the layers you need on and import it without making it a comp (there's an option when importing). At least I did it while handling loads of animations to composite.
@yelyel6897
4 жыл бұрын
@@BenMarriott Yep! I checked it in AE (ah those midnight questions). While importing .psd you should import is as "footage">"merged layers", and then you can loop loop loop loop loop. I don't know if there are any side effects to this method (I personally never noticed any), but maybe it will be helpful.
