Yeah. They really missed out on the potential for banging synthwave ambience, dubstep/DnB boss themes and all sorts of other electronic genres. Ironic that the in-game music is so forgettable given that this game's entire world is based around soundwaves.

You can't have pedal to the metal music like this in the game if you want to build ambience and setting. The music has to fit the surroundings and the theme you want to impart to the player. If you notice the music, the devs and composer failed, that's the rule of thumb in video games and movies. I think they hit the nail on the head in 90% of the areas in the game. The theme of the current zone is notChina, and the soundtrack fits the bill perfectly. Also, there is synthwave in the game in select areas.

Imo in-game music is very bland, of course ambient and BGM can't be super bangers but when you can't even remember their motifs it's not a good sign. And also boss themes fall to this pattern sadly. Compare it to PGR music - it's night and day

@@x_Psyduck_x It's good that you mentioned PGR because as a day1 global player who spent more than i'm comfortable publicly disclosing, PGR is the perfect example of game that needs bossfight banger music from start to finish because that's what the game is, bossfights in a room. In an open world game you need to have everything else tonally. The motifs aren't forgotten, it's just that every area in the game has its own thematic undertones. The rocky north can't have the same track as a mining operation south of the city. Open plains up north west and a murky marsh south east won't have the same tracks accompanying them as the broken city with its motorcycle rider in the south west. Subjectively speaking, they couldn't have done a better job with the tracks, because instead of having them shift slightly from zone to zone they chose to go 100% distinct for each part of their map.

@@Sergio6726 I hate to bring it on but we have an open-world Genshin where most of the overworld BGM's (which are thematically tuned as well) stuck in the head and you even want to listen to them outside of the game because they have beautiful melodies. I can't say I want to listen to ANY of the WW BGM's separately, and that's, for me, is a sign of an underwhelming music. Especially when the game has literally a music theme going all over it, as was mentioned in some of the previous comments. I really wanted to like WW's in-game music, but I can't, and it kind of ruined my expectaions a bit, because that's the one thing I was completely sure they won't fail.
