I had left a cult about 6 months back. they really hurt me in a lot of ways. I couldn't pick up a Bible without being reminded of them and how they treated me and others, or the constant conspiracy theories and false doctrine they taught. I started to learn about the seventh day adventist church and its teaching, much of which I already believed. I've started to heal from the trauma I have had. Slowly, but it's being healed through sound teaching and the compassionate hearts of my local congregation.

I think some SDA churches are not what they are supposed to be, we are supposed to preach straight from the bible and not preach our own personal beliefs/ views, we should not discriminate etc. Due to my experiences I’ve learnt to separate the church from God. We cannot let the way people treat us in the church affect our relationship with God.

This information is very valuable. There is an “ expectation “ that in the church we should find a “ safe place” when reality is that the church is “ a hospital “ of sick people looking to be heal from many areas of their life. We tends to forget that in the same way that a newlyweds couple brings their emotional baggage to the marriage and if they don’t learn how to deal in a healthy manner with each other it will be disappointments . This dynamic is not just in SDA churches this happens in any churches. People are people no matter where they worship. As an SDA I do notice many “ dysfunctional” behavior in members. We just have to go back to the Gospel and take a look at the apostles that walked side by side with Jesus! One of them committed suicide. All I have to say is that as we are getting closer to Our Savior King of king and Lord of Lord closer returns… we will see more problems within the church! No matter what church ! Me personally I just keep my eyes on Jesus, cling onto Him like never before! Turn your eyes upon Jesus, read His word, have personal quality time with Him, take time on fasting, and things on this earth will grow strangely dim. We are in a spiritual battle. Let’s keep on His armor of salvation 🙏🙏🙏❤️

I want to suggest that the word "Therapy" would be better to use than counseling, as it is often the case in religious contexts that what is called "counseling" is done by any old pastor, elder, church leader etc, who is unlicensed and has some sort of personal relationship with the person seeking help. It is VITAL to go talk to a LICENSED PROFESSIONAL THERAPIST who is specifically trained in the type of trauma you've experienced, and who is an impartial third-party (they'll be able to see things in your situation that you can't, and won't give you biased information because of their personal relationship with you or your family members, friends, community, etc.)

When there are things within the church that may upset or repulse us, and where reconciliation seems to be impossible, instead of leaving the church, it may be wise to consider the solution found in Matthew 13:30 where Jesus declares that the wheat and the tares should be left to grow together until the time of the harvest, whereafter HE will seperate the wheat from the tares at that time.

GBU bro and sis Today let's study about.... FALSE INSISTENCE .....THE EARLY CHURCH KEPT SUNDAY AS THE LORDS DAY. ..Those who worship on sunday.not on the Sabbath ,insists that Sunday was kept as the lord's day in the early Church quoting Rev 1:10..... Revelation 1:10..On the lord's day I was in the Spirit..... 1) Is there any verse in the Bible, which says that Sunday is the lord's day ?? If there is a verse says that ,state the verse. There is no verse in the Bible.... 2). The lord's day , is the Sabbath day... The Lord in Revelation 1:10is Jesus,so the lord's day is Jesus s day... Then ,what is Jesus day in the Bible? It is the Sabbath day... Mattew 12:8.." For the son of man is Lord of Sabbath"".… Jesus said that He is the lord of Sabbath. In other words ,the Sabbath is the Lord Jesus's day ... In the old testament.too the lord's day was the Sabbath day.. Exodus 31:12_13..Then the lord said to Moses ,"" Say to the Isrealites, " You must observe my Sabbath....". What did the lord Jehovah said about the Sabbath?? He said "' My Sabbath""... Therefore, the lord's day in Rev 1:19 indicates the Sabbath day , not Sunday....Amen 🙏

My parents were not only Seventh-day Adventists before I was born (1944), they, more often than not, were elected to hold various offices in the local congregations of which they were members. They studied their Sabbath School lessons “religiously” and taught my siblings and me to do the same. They sacrificed to enroll my siblings and me in SdA schools. They subscribed to SdA periodicals and each time a new volume of the Seventh-day Adventist Bible Commentary came out, Dad bought a copy. For all of my childhood and the first few of my teen years, I assumed that most Seventh-day Adventists’ beliefs and practices were similar to those of my parents. They taught us that there are Christians in most or all of the ostensibly Christian denominations. They read enough of the Bible to us - and I read enough of the Bible on my own - that I assumed most or all adventists considered the church to consist of all believers, regardless of our denominational affiliation. Our parents talked about “the Conference” (by which I usually understood them to refer to the local conference) and “the General Conference” often enough that I assumed their references to “the church” were references to the Christian church. Dad had been raised in the Roman Church. When I was still a child, he was careful to explain to me several (many?) of the reasons he decided, when he was about twenty, he could no longer consider himself an adherent of that organization. He told me the main reason he disassociated himself from it was the doctrine that the officers needed to interpret the Bible for the laity. To me, that meant he could never belong to an organization that taught that doctrine - which, in turn, meant that he didn’t consider Seventh-day Adventists to teach that doctrine. Repeatedly, he told me “Read for yourself, study for yourself and think for yourself. I understood that to mean that my parents’ religion was personal, not institutional. By the time I was ten, I had memorized at least 150 Bible passages. By the time I was thirteen I had memorized at least 150 more including (not surprisingly) Revelation 14:12 “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” I believed (and I still believe) the use of the plural “they” in that verse is a reference to the PEOPLE who keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. That same word precludes any possible reference to a religious organization. (If it were, the pronoun would be “it”.) Verse 17 “And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” I believed (and I still believe) that verse is a reference to the PEOPLE who will be the remnant and who will keep the commandments of God just before Jesus returns. The language precludes the remnant being an organization. (If it were, the verb would be “keeps”.) Ellen White’s book, The Great Controversy, makes many references to the church (lowercase “c”) as she was writing about events that occurred before there was any such thing as a Seventh-day Adventist organization. If “the church” was an organization (as was taught by the bishop of Rome) Mrs. White would have needed to use very different language than she chose to use in that book. If a person who thinks of believers as the church were to read that book, her use of the phrase “the church” would create no conflict because (or so it seemed and seems to me) her references to the church were references to believers in Jesus, not an organization. When I was in my early teens, I was aware that SOME references to “the church” by SOME of the members of the SdA organization were intended to be references to an organization but I assumed that such people were simply not fully assimilated into the Seventh-day Adventist movement. If people are raised to think of an organization as “the Church” and if they change their denominational affiliation without learning that biblical references to “the church” are references to the body of believers, they are likely to bring their misperceptions with them. I was fifteen before it dawned on me a) that probably the majority of Seventh-day Adventists considered the Seventh-day Adventist organization to be “the church” and b) that such Seventh-day Adventists, because they didn’t consider members of other denominations to be members of “the church”, probably didn’t consider members of other denominations to be Christians either. In the 1950s, our parents bought a card game at the “Book & Bible House” about the history of the nineteenth-century advent movement. Rachel Oaks, Joshua V. Himes, etc. were “household names” to us. I don’t remember our parents specifically mentioning this aspect of the history of the movement but, in the early 1960s when seventh-day sabbath keeping adventists first created and incorporated such organizations as the Seventh-day Adventist Publishing Association and the Michigan Conference, the word “Church” was conspicuous by its absence. I think that was intentional. The adventists themselves - and their neighbors - tended to associate the word “Church” in the names of religious organizations with creedalism, hierarchy and dogmatism - things the pioneers of the movement very much wanted to avoid. I don’t know when, exactly, I first noticed that SdA literature was referring to the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists as the Seventh-day Adventist Church but that language elicited a protest from me. Nobody seemed to care. Later, I noticed that the General Conference office building was being labeled “World headquarters of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Later still, the phrase “World Church” was applied, not only to the office building but to the organization itself. In that context, how is the word “World” different from the meaning of the word “catholic” with a lowercase “c”? More protestants. More deafening silence in reply. The majority of Seventh-day Adventists now live in countries that were never protestant. If the majority of those Adventists have brought with them the doctrines that an organization is “the church” and that spiritual authority is received only from or through the organization, is it inevitable that the trend toward creedalism, hierarchy and dogmatism will continue? So, of course, the title “WAIT! Before you leave the Seventh-day Adventist Church WATCH THIS VIDEO” caught my eye. If the officers of an organization have not only moved away from my concept of the advent movement as a special and very-much-needed emphasis within the Christian church but seemingly continue to move in that direction, at what point does membership in the organization become tacit approval of those trends?

Dear Roger Metzger, Greetings in Christ Jesus. I was looking at both of your comments for a while and I read them a few times repeatedly. I appreciate that you took the time to comment on the video and actively engage with the content. You raised numerous important questions about church authority and the identity of people. I am grateful you took the time to share those sentiments. Rather than address all of your questions, especially since I am not all knowing, I would like to take the time to respond to two of the rhetorical questions that you raised. Question 1: “Are they marginalized if they publicly refer to other Christians than Seventh-day Adventists as brothers and sisters in the Lord?” Answer 1: I can certainly understand the feelings you may have about this issue. It sounds like what you are saying is that you have encounter professed Seventh-day Adventists who are prejudiced or bigoted towards the Christians of other denominations. I am also feeling that perhaps you felt disgusted when you encountered that prejudice. At Christ Jesus Ministries, we categorically reject such prejudice. While we may not share the beliefs of Roman Catholics or other Protestants, we certainly do not view Roman Catholics or other Protestants as being evil and we look forward to meeting many Roman Catholic Christians and other Protestant Christians in Heaven. Christ Jesus will save everyone and anyone who accepts Him as Lord and Saviour. I, Christopher, will gladly interview anyone who has a message from the Lord, whether they be Catholic, Protestant, Evangelical, or non-denominational. A Christian is a follower of Christ. Period. Full stop. As you can see, on this channel, I have interviewed numerous people from various denominations, beliefs and, from all walks of life, and I deeply appreciate the conversations I have had with every single one of them. I have been able to have productive and open conversations with many of these interviewees about our differing views, not just concerning “Adventist theology”, but other matters as well. I recognize that I have so much to learn, and I am so grateful for everyone who has taken the time to speak with me. Including you, Roger. I learned a lot about areas of growth from reading your two comments, and I appreciate you took the time to share these thoughts with me. Question 2: What happens when their personal Bible study unearths the doctrine of justification is by grace alone through faith alone? Answer 2: I would say that when a person finds out that salvation comes through Christ’s grace, and not their own works, they should rejoice and celebrate. It sounds like you have encountered the pharisaical and legalistic presence that is becoming increasingly vocal in Seventh-day Adventist communities. I can totally understand why you would feel frustrated after having been exposed to that kind of spiritual abuse. I have gone through that myself and I recognize your experience and I appreciate that you took the time to share that with me. I would like to make a recommendation. I say this with all due respect and consideration, but I would highly advise that you find a healthier environment to be in. I used to attend a legalistic cult, which was independent of the Seventh-day Adventist Christian Church, although the cult professed to be Seventh-day Adventist. In short, all I found there was abuse. I left that movement feeling deeply discouraged and I had to attend therapy to recover, in part from my experience there, and from all of the other things I have been through in my life. After leaving that environment and starting on my road to healing, I ended up meeting many well-balanced and grace-focused individuals, like Justin Khoe and Professor Jud Lake. If you watch the rest of their content, you will find that they are very compassionate people and that they are not legalistic in the slightest. I hope that you will find healing in Christ Jesus. He loves you with all of His heart. In Christ Jesus, Christopher Sernaque

I agree with everything you have said. I have been a Seventh-day Adventist Christian since I was a teenager, and I believe that God's church, including His final remnant, are people - certainly not an organization with its headquarters in Vatican City or in Silver Spring, Maryland. So I believe your parents taught you very well. Regaring you final question, I really think the trend in Adventism is toward viewing God's church as people and not as an organization, but we definitely have a way to go on this. The SDA Church is not as rigid and legalistic as it was when I joined it in the 1970s as a teenager. So I would counsel hanging in there and promoting grace and justification by faith. If justification by faith is correctly understood and appreciated, the sectarian mindset that views the church as an organization in Silver Spring will inevitably die away, at least among the Adventists who respond to this good news. The good news may not ever take hold among all Adventists, but God can still use Gospel Adventists in a mighty way. Your membership in the SDA denomination will not save you, but when the Adventist message is viewed with justification by faith as its great heart, it suddenly takes on tremendous beauty that is never seen when it the message is viewed legalistically. And I believe very strongly that this is God's grace-centered endtime message that needs to be shared with the whole world. This isn't a matter of denominations or organizations. It is a matter of really getting a good view of Jesus and the loving character of God. So I would urge you to stay the course and keep your membership in the organization, warts and all, but be grace-centered and do all you can to share justification by faith in the SDA Church, in the wider Christian Church, and especially with unchurched people who don't know Jesus.

It has often been presented to me that there should be less SERMONIZING by ministers, acting merely as local pastors of churches, and that greater personal efforts should be put forth. Our people should not be made to think that they need to listen to a sermon every Sabbath. Many who listen frequently to sermons, even though the truth be presented in clear lines, LEARN BUT LITTLE. Often it would be more profitable if the Sabbath meetings were of the nature of a BIBLE-CLASS STUDY. 21 LtMs Lt 192

SDA is the remnant church and only church that was built on the spirit of prophecy. Revelation 12:17 And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. Revelation 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
