(Links above help support the channel! Thanks!)
Here's everything you want to know about the Wahoo TICKR FIT optical heart rate (HR) sensor. From the unboxing of it, how it compares in features to the Scosche Rhythm+ and Polar OH-1, as well as how accuracy looks across a multitude of workouts, and of course, plenty more details on the unit like size and weight comparisons. Enjoy!

    Nice Review! I've a tip to include newer testing of optical HR measurements. When I used a Optical Fitbit a time ago I discovered Optical HR has flaws In measuring HR at cycling sprints from arm of wrists. I tried the Optical HR on +_ 10cm of the ankle bone (HR Optical on inside positioned to a vain) and discovered it measurements a much accurately. Maybe you can investigate? this as well? / rediscover new use of it!

    Thank you. I am planning on buying the new generation Scoche, which will be out in April or the Polar armband device. I have Tickr straps, and they are very good for all activities, but like all chest straps they turn on and off automatically. I use the Scoche for an unusual purpose: sleep tracking with heart rate via Bluetooth. I have a heart rhythm abnormality and I want accuracy. Most of my fellow beta testers for new features of that app don't care if it's deadly accurate; I do. They use their fancy watches for HR. And watches are notoriously inaccurate and fussy devices. But HR straps are only for running, cycling and so forth. And most importantly, you turn an armband on, and you turn it off. (If the sleep app runs low on battery for some reason - a physical disconnection, say, tracking stops to save the alarm. In such an instance, the BTLE HR strap's readings are ignored by the app, too, to save phone battery. Other than that, it takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin.') The Scoche 24 actually has a mode just for rest!!! Awesome. Cyclists like that idea as do we sleep trackers. So glad that these new straps click in to attach to the arm, instead of using velcro. Unfortunately for Wahoo, your tests show quite a few glaring inaccuracies. So I know which one I have my eye on BTW, when it fell, it was funny as he**; thanks for not cutting it out. I have dropped small electronics, too many times. A terrible, sinking feeling. LOL

    Hi Guys I wanted a bit of advice as am planning on using one of these in a study and have had a bit of difficulty getting a clear answer from the Wahoo website. I need to be able to see the data from the device for analysis on a windows PC . What is the workflow for this and what is the best software? I don't need to see it live. Do I need to get an ant+ receiver or is a bluetooth dongle enough? Thanks in advance!

    Thanks Ray, great video. You mention the Scosche can do pace and cadence at the end. Is that right? I have never seen that before. Also your thoughts on what is more accurate this or the Scosche?

    Yup, it was introduced this past fall in a firmware update. The only catch to it though is that you need a more recent unit (i think the cutoff is about 12-18 months ago). Also, some folks have reported some wonkyness in the most recent version.

    Thank you, I did do the firmware update last night to one of my two units. Cool to get the new stats but you are right on the wonkiness. Did a 2 hour workout on TrainerRoad today with the updated unit. Got drop outs for the first time ever with the unit. Rebooting the unit did not fix so the latest firmware has issues.

    I just unboxed mine and it recommends wearing the monitor on the upper forearm. You say you wore yours on your upper arm (above the elbow, presumably). Could this be a contributor to the accuracy reading issues?

  • @willsr2010
    @willsr20106 жыл бұрын

    Awesome review. You seemed to be wearing the Fit on your upper arm, but Wahoo indicates that this should be worn on your forearm. Did you try your forearm? If the upper arm is a misplacement, could that explain some of the data discrepancies you measured?

  • @Dcrainmaker

    A bit different than the Scosche, though somewhat similar. One thing to note is that Scosche did change their straps about a year or two ago, so depending on how old your Scosche is, may be worthwhile grabbing the updated straps.

    John Manley clean that strap with water and alcohol. Dry it completely. Your sweat and dead skins makes the Velcro less effective.

    Question, during the last year, I have had 3 Wahoo HR monitors gone bad. They start giving wrong readings and that’s it, they never come back to accurate. Wahoo has warrantied all those. Do you have any idea what’s happening with them? Or may be is that issue fixable? This last one Wahoo said it is because some body’s ph is not compatible. Thus, they are sending me this Fit one which I have seen really bad reviews of.

    DC, I am visually and paired and my coach wants me to get a heart rate monitor to wear and two alert me I guess for setting up different zones, I can’t see to work a touchscreen and or navigate buttons to go through Settings, is there one that is simple enough that I can just connect to my phone or set it up and it will chirp or buys me to let me know if I’m in the right zone or not? And perhaps will attach to my wrist or my arm? I don’t really feel like straps that go around my chest and back, if you would let me know what you think thank you very much

  • @Dcrainmaker

    @Dcrainmaker

    Yup, you could pair it up to an app and get zone alerts via audio. I think the Wahoo app even does that by default, but there are lots of apps that will do that as well.

    I see it is using a green optical light, but I've read that red light is much more accurate. Have you heard of any companies experimenting with red optics lately?

  • @Dcrainmaker

    @Dcrainmaker

    6 жыл бұрын

    It's actually a mixed bag. In general, companies that say red light is more accurate are companies using red LED's, but I've never seen any actual evidence that one is better than the other. They tend to cut through different skin tones differently. Scosche actually uses a blend of a yellow+green light, which helps a bit there.
