While one may want to see bigger changes it's kind of nice to see a new product that doesn't make you feel like your old one is obsolete. And the fact that Wahoo continues to update even its oldest GPSes regularly is pretty awesome.
Thanks Des! Been waiting (impatiently) for this! Pretty stoked about the new device, and the cloud config sync.

Impressive review and help me decide to upgrade to the Elemnt V2. Will the upgrade also show sensor configuration to then list my gears? This feature has been a life savor for me.
Thanks for the great review as usual. Two questions 1) Can you use Wahoo Roam 2 to import ride with GPS? Where I live in FL the local TRI event company uses Ride with GPS to share route. 2) Is there an advantage to using this device over my iPhone 14 max? I use my ultra watch for HR and most metrics and only need bike computer (or phone) to show route. Looked at quad lock for iPhone but a little concerned with stability and durability on MTB routes. Thanks for your help!!
Thanks Des, great as always, I'd be all over the wahoo stuff if I wasn't knee deep in the Garmin eco system. Great units

🙋♂️ love your reviews- not sure where to ask this-for Mtn Biking I’ll use trail forks for mapping and Strava for stats post ride -for now my phone in pocket and do use reading glasses to see better small things-so I look at the new Wahoo here and the Garmin Edge you just reviewed-for my case any suggestions❓
That Maryland mountain descent with the switch backs is chonkayyyyy
Thanks for the review. One question - Can this unit navigate routes without downloading specific routes? TIA!
Hi Des! I’m trying to decide between the Elemnt Roam 2 and Garmin edge 530. I mostly ride mtb and have a fenix 6. Thanks.
Brutal ! 😂 Jou have Jordan Drake’s voice ! DP Review’s Jordan Drake. Really funny. Two people sharing the same voice… 👍🏼
Have you considered testing the sigma rox 11.1 evo? Would be interested to see how it stacks up to Garmin and wahoo units.
good vid, lots of info. i have a few ?s. will the new v2 work with my old element sensors and the mounts for my element? what is hte recharge time when the v2 is dead?
I was given an old Elemnt a while back and loved it, but the battery got too weak. So I upgraded to the original Roam. I really like it, but have two major issues with it. The first is the storage space, which now seems to be fixed. The second is the ability to load a planned track on the go. I plan my rides with Komoot, and uploading them to the Roam in my home WiFi is fast. BUT ... loading a pre-planned track out on tour is HORRIBLE. Loading the track into the Elemnt App only takes seconds. BUT then transferring it to the Roam takes more than 6 minutes! That is just inacceptable for a device in this price segment!! Side note: when I plan a route in Komoot I give it a name and select Gravelbike. When selecting the track in the Elemnt App this is still all good...BUT, when I upload the finished and saved track from the Elemnt App back to Komoot, it is called "bike ride", and the type is Road Bike! What!?!?! I have now gone back to Navigation with Komoot and my Smartphone. It is less sexy but faster, accurate enough and much less of a hassle! Oh, and before the keyboard warriors kick in,- yes, a Ziploc will do wonders in the rain ;-) Cheers, Frank
Hi, I have the V1 version of Roam The only thing that would make me take the plunge towards buying a V2, would be to improve the reading of the profile of the slope to climb. Which seems to me not to be the case with this new version. Indeed, when we are shown the yellow or orange zone, corresponding to the elevation of the segment, nothing ever says what distance is left in this crossed sector. am I wrong?
I'm debating getting the garmin 530 vs wahoo element roam v2. I heard that garmin has connectivity problems with gps and wahoo doesn't have problems at all. I thought that the roam v2 gps was accurate but watching your video is seems like it's not sometimes. Do you know if the street addresses will be added at some point to the roam v2 maps? Do you know if it alerts you about calls and text messages? can you answer/read them? I will use it pretty much for road rides thanks!
Whats the best biking computer to navigate via an imported gpx route? The Roam, something from Garmin? Something else? Thanks!
I’ve been using the roam v1 for 2 years. And the loss of gps signal was always the biggest downfall with the device. Very annoying and a lot of time I had to turn and ride back to get on track. Yes it does re-route but thats not always possible when the route extends 15 km. Hope thats fixed now
as of today, would you recommend this or the bolt v2?
great review. will they ever really get their maps to add the names of streets so when you are out of your route, you can start looking where you are; like garmin/karoo? I have gotten lost plenty of times in new cities and have had to pull out my phone and use google maps to get home. I just think they keep missing the boat here.

The Climb Feature is very cool. I hope this is not new Elemnt only and comes for the bolt v2 in a future update?

Summit is already enabled on the V2
Thanks Des, maps Brazil?
Is it a seamless switch from V1 to V2.. does it just pick up where the V1 left off??
Thanks!

What I miss on every Wahoo Bikecomputers is a ETA and remaining time when navigating. Remaining Altidude as a datafield would be cool too.

How can a bike computer calculate an eta since you are the one controlling the speed?
@markusburkhardt5105

@@Charger383ci it is easy. With the rest distance and the average pace no problem. Why not?
@Charger383ci

@@markusburkhardt5105 True, but then you have to fill in your average speed. I guess car navigation calculate it according the maximum speed you may drive during your ride.😉

@@Charger383ci why I should fill in some data? The Wahoo knows all datas. I think you don‘t understand. Other devices can tell you the ETA since 10 years.

@@markusburkhardt5105 ok. Didn't know that. Then i don't know how they can. Maybe on the average speed of your overall rides.
I bought it, this is my first bike computer, but i like it. Just not sure or is it worth to buy speed sensor. But for sure i'll buy garmin varia.

if you have stabil gps connection at all time I don't think its necessary
I am currently a Wahoo Bolt v2 user. Would I notice much of a difference in terms of navigation between my present unit and this one or mostly just the accuracy improving?

The ROAM v2 has a bigger display compared to the BOLT v2, so the information presented is just bigger and clearer. As far as I know that would be it because the BOLT v2 is planned to have summit freeride as well. One minor thing would be multi band GNSS, but that is something minor to be honest.
Changed over to the Hammerhead last year and wouldn’t change back if you paid me.
Great video- just got a Roam V2. Can I ask you a question?

@@DesFit Thanks I think I got the answer yesterday. It was going to be... I rode my first ride today with Roam 2, Had a route. Starred some Strava Live Segments, BUT some of the Strava Live Segments were also Summit climbs. When it got to those climbs, the Summit screen came up and not the Strava live segment screen. This was bad because I was trying to compete against my PR but the summit screen does not show this of course. How would I have this not happen? would I have to shut off Summit in App if want Strava live segments on a ride? I learned there is a setting to shut off SUMMIT screen from appearing but still allow elevation and Strava Live segments to show. whooo- that's a lot. Reply
how do you delete a route if you don't need it again.
I am wondering does the new roam calculate jumps and distance of jumps?

That sort of functionality is available on Garmin Edge 830/530/840/540/1030/1040 but not Wahoo devices currently.
I just bought the Elemnt Roam v1, I am considering to change it for the new one. Do you think is a good idea?

Phones are generally pretty large to fit on handlebars, battery life is also a concern, lack of power meter pairing with most apps, and better usability with physical buttons for most functions (maps is an exception).

having the map displayed on the screen the whole time will kill your battery (if you are riding for 3 hours or more). The climbing option will help you to improve your performance. It will display a ton of informative data that is needed on the ride. I have been riding my bike using my phone as gps and I want to switch to a bike computer.

What is the difference to this and the Bolt..? Its £100 more than the Bolt so if the software is the same what is the extra cost..? Nobody covers the actual differences....I can see the colours, buttons and memory on a spec sheet but I can't see what it actually does..!!!
