most of the people that hates autowah never gave it an opportunity. The expression its easily controlled by the sensibility knob and the way you play the strings. I used to hate autowah a lot, but once i tried it and learned how to use it, i even liked it more than wah.

The entire point of the wah pedal is to get the tone from sweeping the wah, then holding it as a filter and playing normally to then use it on stuff like bends

I mostly use my wah as a filter, I don't rock the pedal back and forth much. I use it like a crazy powerful tone control that I control with my foot. Really makes certain types of lead lines pop. Auto-wah makes me feel trapped in a world that stinks of patchouli.

a good optical auto way is extremely touch sensitive, I play mine with my fingers because the slightest difference is pressure effects how far the envelope opens up. so there is control, but it is limited. still have a wah pedal though because they do a lot!

Cons: autowah is a straight jacket

Its not that necessary, and actually dimebag used the whammy more than wah. Not only for squeal or riffs, dime used it for a chorus type effect, keeping it active almost all the set.

The is something that takes time to master. And the cool thing about it is that you play it differently is fast parts of a solo, then in slower riffs. You play different when doing chords. Autowah? Plasticky, if that word exists. Supermarket sound.

The old school wah pedal itself is good but it’s kind of a throwback to a bygone era and the times I used it I got tired of having to stand there with my foot on it working the pedal up and down. Regular Wah sounds way better though. The automatic Wah is way too consistent, adds no feeling to guitar playing

One listen to the Cream or the Jimi Hendrix experience live completely invalidates this video, you can do a lot of impressive things on stage with a wah pedal, plus auto wah cannot and will not substitute if you want any unique phrasing and timing. auto wah is not a good substitute for a wah pedal, rather a separate tool and unique sound of its own.
