Some other titles by them are Ikusa, Ignite, Sun wheel, Sabaku no komoriuta, Tengaku, Synchronicity or just anything that comes in front of your eyes. They go through a lot of genres, but every time it sounds amazing. It's a habit of theirs to do instrumentals between the regular songs, exclusively on live shows. Each time can be totally different. Sometimes they stir things with acoustic versions or some other changes too. Homura is part of the guitarist' solo album, so you can find it with these band members live only. Akatsuki no ito is one of their first original songs. Fans sing it instead chanting "encore encore". Their first album in vocaloid covers only. Their goal was to go international, to spread the culture of Japan. It kind of happen and didn't happen. Small tour in US, few comic cons. This (i call it) rumor that they will open/close the Olympics is not officially confirmed as far as i know. The band and fans might wanted it, but it wasn't sure. They were in the company avex that had to take care of the music on the Olympics, but last year they moved to Universal. So...i doubt it was planed the way we expected. Moreover they did two songs for tv broadcast only in Japan, for the Olympics 2016. ("Mirai" and "Kishikaisei", the latter only has a music video).

Wagakki Band is one of the best Japanese groups out there. They combine traditional Japanese instruments and vocal styles with modern rock, metal, jazz, and more. All eight members are master level musicians, and their lead singer, the very elegant Yuko Suzuhana, may be the best female Japanese vocalist I have heard. Wagakki Band is the only other Japanese group that comes anywhere close to BabyMetal in international popularity. The video for their song Senbonzakura has more views than Gimme Chocolate. Wagakki Band is even better live, as there stage shows are musical extravaganzas that rival the very best BabyMetal concerts.

Just to let you know, they are the biggest band you've done so far from Japan. Domestically speaking. They regularly top the charts with their albums and singles, amidst all the Idol groups and Anime soundtracks. They were supposed to play at the Tokyo Olympics ceremony (don't remember if it was opening or closing). Also, "Wagakki" itself means "Japanese instrument", so they're the Japanese Instument Band if you want to translate it. Vocalist Yuko Suzuhana is also a classically trained and college educated pianist and composer and has a pretty successful solo career, she also teaches Enka, the traditional Japanese singing style you hear in this performance. A pretty popular song of her's is Cradle of Eternity, which she recorded with Kami Band's drummer Hideki Aoyama and guitarist Leda Cygnus (who are also in the official video) kzread.info/dash/bejne/fKyDxbSPl6qaqZs.html . As CoffeineNightOwl already said, even though they have different playing styles, Machiya is pretty much on par with Takayoshi Ohmura from BABYMETAL's Kami Band, who some musicians say is one of the best Rock & Metal guitarists in the world right now.

Beni plays a Tsugaru-style Futozao (Thick Neck Size) Shamisen. The sharp, flashy style of tsugaru was played in the streets by the bousama (blind musicians) who developed a more lively style. Blind musicians at the beginning of the 20th century, including Shirakawa Gunpachiro Takahashi Chikuzan and sighted players like Kida Rinshoei developed a new style of play, based on traditional folk songs ("min'yo"), but with a lot Improvisation and eye-catching finger work. This style - known as Tsugaru-Jamisen, after the native region in northern Honshu - is relatively popular today in Japan. The virtuoso tsugaru jamisen style is sometimes compared to bluegrass banjo. The classic pick is called Bachi. The koto is a Japanese zither and the national instrument of Japan. The bamboo flute is called a shakuhachi and the second drum kit is a wadeiko The singer's very broad vibrato is typical of Shigin, a traditional poem concert style. Suzuhana Yuko, the singer of the Wagakki Band, is a certified teacher for Shigin. The style of dance that Yuko performs( in other clips) is called Kenshibu ('Sword and Poetry Dance') This is a category of Japanese interpretive dances performed to traditional music with poetry. Kenbu refers to dances that are performed with the help of a sword.(kzread.info/dash/bejne/hZqux5mLYdLTgrg.html) and Shibu dance with one or more hand fans called Sensu / Ogi (folding fans).

Not bad at all. I love the authentic Japanese instruments. The guitar player is quite good. If you want to hear a real master on guitar, listen to Joe Satriani or Steve Vai.

I teach in a secondary (high school) in the UK and NOBODY listens to rock music anymore. It's really bad. They need to wake up and smell the coffee.

Oh wow.. That's no good.. I agree they need to wake up. Makes me proud to see my Son recognizing the pure crap out there that kids listen to and that he appreciates real music from many Genres. Tack on that he loves to explore the peeks and valleys of the world for great artists and music. I know alot of kids over here that are getting in to good classic bands and artists, but the grand majority are unfortunately listening to trash. Sad.. Take care my friend and best of luck over there. Maybe some day, they will wake up..
