This technique is actually used by handball goalkeepers a lot. They use their feet and hands to block high shots and i don’t know for what reason, i just noticed the similarity between this save and their technique.

the reason is that the balls are thrown from shorter distances and with the Hand. So its harder to predict the flight-curve of the ball. Also the goals are smaller. This combination encourages a style of goalkeeping that covers a large area of the goal and is also faster to pull of. If you would dive like football goalkeepers you wouldn't catch a ball because you have not the time to do it between throw and catch

@@dorgeshuun Also, correct me if I am wrong, but handball is played in hard surfaces, not grass, so I wouldn't recommend diving to the floor frequently.

Tbf we've all pulled off that save when we can't be bothered to dive for it

If u want to see some spectacular goalkeeping watch Highlights from "Perez de Vargas", "Palicka", "Heinevetter", "Wolff" or "Chupryna"(he is a bit unknown maybe u wont find something but hes crazy aswell)

Ngl I live in Germany and I've only met one person that plays handball. People know it, I don't think it's a staple over here at all tho. Football is our real staple.

I played waterpolo for 5 years, and was goalie for a year or two. I've definitely done a foot save a couple times, either when you guess the wrong direction on a penalty shot, or the ball is passed cross-pool relatively close to the net. Feels extremely cheeky when you do it

this is hw i used to play back in the day. I had no experience as a goalkeeper and one day our goalie and backup didn’t show up so I had to fill in. Had never used my hands to touch the balle before so I just saved everything with me feet, got a clean sheet. They started training me after that, I just never could let go of the habit of using my feet a lot of the time. usually what would happen is that id block it with my foot and then get the rebound with my hands. really dumb and really dangerous but i was really good at it.

to this day, scientists are still studying the the summer of 2018 being the best summer of all time

I literally am a goalkeeper for my local team and i basically use only my legs 90% of the time
