I used to be at my grandfathers house and listen to all sorts of classical and chamber music. They had no tv. Except for a small tv upstairs. Downstairs they had the living room and the family room. My grandma and grandpa would sit for hours on end and read these giant novels while listening to classical music. It gave me such a sense of culture. They loved to travel and read and listen to classical music. But were very down to earth people as well. They knew the value of hard work and hard love. I still miss them and listening to classical music is a way i can feel connected to them even after they have passed on.

+fireice2037 what a wonderful story. I really relate because i grew up in unhappy home but spent time with a family who were like second parents and my fondest memory is of their dad sitting at a baby grand piano and playing his favorite music and singing along. That and my one great joy in my own home was putting on an old vynly record and the anticipation of a favorite song being foreshadowed by the crackle and pop of an old record then the wonderful music started............and one gets carried away to a happier place :)

That's stretching it. This work is really not that "dark". His Sonata in A minor could have had the influence of his mother's death. Not the case with this. It was probably commissioned by a noble for an occasion, and of course, the upper class wouldn't want too much "emo" or other dark emotions during an event that should be more pleasant or festive.

Don't credit the work of a genius to a higher power that definitely doesn't exist.
I was humming/listening to the first movement at work, and a customer overheard. "Hey, that sounds good, what is it?" "A Mozart piece. I absolutely love it, but cannot for the life of me say the name right." "Moes Art? Never heard them. Then again, I listen to talk radio, not really into the popular stuff." "WHAAA? You've never heard of Mozart? Ever?" "What can I say, I'm an old man, stuck in my ways." "....He was a composer from the 1700's."

God was sitting right next to Mozart when he composed this masterpiece
Here's a detailed explanation of this piece, and happy Halloween everyone!! The genre of the song is serenade for strings which is a chamber music. It was composed in 1787 by Mozart and the translation of the title is A Little Night Music. The performing forces of this song is double string quartet with double bass and it is often performed by a string orchestra. The first movement is in G major and it is a sonata form. The tempo is allegro, and the meter is 4/4. In the exposition, the first theme is in unison, and it outlines the tonic, then dominant seventh chords. It is a homophonic texture and the melodic line is played by a violin. In the bridge, it modulates to the dominant key, which is D major. The first violins outline a G major triad, followed by ascending scale movement leading to a D major. For the second them group, it contrasts with the first theme and the melody begins with a playful downward turn. It also features a triplet figure and piano dynamic level. On bar 36-40, it was built from a repeated eighth-note figure that creates an insistent quality and on bar 51-55, all instruments play briefly in unison, ending with an authentic cadence in D major and repeated signs are usually observed in performance. In the short development on bar 70-76, it begins with first-theme material in D major and quickly moves from D major to C major, then features material from theme 2b. The end of the development emphasizes the dominant to prepare the listener for the return of the main theme in the tonic key. In the Recapitulation, the first theme returns exactly as it was presented in the exposition. The bridge unexpectedly cadences in D major as in the exposition. The second theme group fulfills the listener's expectations and the song returns into G major. The coda grows out of the codetta, ending with a reference to the first theme. The key for the second movement is in C major and it is in Rondo form. The tempo is Adante and the meter is 2/2. In section A, the character is lyrical, understated, simple, and elegant. It unfolds over a tonic pedal, and the balance is achieved through four-measure phrases with clear-cut cadences. Also, the internal structure of this section is rounded binary form. In section B, a new melody is introduced and becomes more active rhythmically. The melodic line is also embellished. In section C, a new key is introduced: C minor. It has imitative dialogue between the outer parts. There is also repeated sixteenth-note figure in inner voices which is more active, creating restless character. Returning to section A, the key also returns in C major. In the Coda, it grows out of Section A material and brings the movement to a gentle close. The key for the third movement is in G major and it is a ternary form. The tempo is allegretto and the meter is 3/4. For the menuet, the internal structure is rounded binary and the phrases are typically four measures long. It is loud with robust character. The dance-like quality reinforced through rhythmic accentuation. For the trio, it includes a new key: D major. Contrast is achieved through sotto voce indication; more lyrical character and legato lines. There are more chromatic inflections than in the menuet. There is also the sotto voce which is a subdued, gentle character lowering the volume level as if to a whisper. Then it goes back to the Menuet, which the key returns to G major. For the fourth movement, the key is in G major and it is a sonata-rondo form. The tempo is allegro and the meter is 2/2. In the first theme, there is spirited, light-hearted character. The theme opens with a rocket theme that outlines the tonic arpeggio. In the second theme, it begins with a downward turn of a minor sixth and it is in a stepwise motion. It also employs some chromatic embellishments.

For late 20th century people who weren't familiar with classical music, this was the most approachable piece (along with the fourth part of _William Tell Overture_ and the _Overture to the Barber of Seville_). It did a lot to get me interested in classical music when I was growing up. And the performance here is exceptional. I'm glad this gem was recorded and recorded with good quality sound equipment.

This is why I take german. I can't even describe how much I love this beautiful song, with all the dynamics and repetition and OMYGOD amazing!
There are not many pieces of music that are played with more love than this Serenade. This is the case here, and together with the genius of Mozart it becomes a super treat.

What amazes me the most is how this song withstood the test of time. A man composed such a wonderful piece that nearly everyone in the world knows at least a bit of it. Mozart is a genius. Fun fact, did you know that he declined Beethoven as a pupil.

According to David Weiss, first time - yes, he declined. But not the second time he was asked. He accepted and agreed on time of first lesson, but Beethoven's mother got sick and he had to return home, so it was not Mozart's fault. No idea if David Weiss can be trusted.
Absolutely brilliant, amazing, fascinating, legendary and awesome piece of art. Mozart leaves me with an awe like no other. Cudos!
The best performance ever!

Eye nuh... Kly nuh... Nacht is a N like know, A like Ah C with the hard German C and the ht Is also a bit thicker. Musik is just a German accent and music. Eine Kleine Nachtmusick, can also be asked for as Mozart's a little night music, or a bit of evening music. And songs have lyrics, classical music fans prefer people to use the word piece for a piece of music. You can also say composition and they won't rudely sigh at you.

It's a purely descriptive name. A little serenade is what it really means. Serenades were understood as a musical form and not in the romantic sense people think of now.
It is one of life's miracle.....W.A.Mozart

It's hard to explain my feelings when listening to this glorious Eine Kleine Nachtmusik.
One of the best of Mozart. This all time best. I will never forget the feelings that I felt hearing this.
I love listening to Mozart!
Úžasná skladba. Klobúk dole a veľka vďaka patrí Slovenskému Komornému Orchestru. Palec hore.
179 dislikes? I can't find anything that could be better. It's so beautiful to dislike this masterfulness of a piece created and what's being played and heard in these ears is perfection. Savor a pour and flavor this with it and just relax because it's lovely to settle anything or if you just want to unwind. I need to see this live one day live. Be a pleasure. Throw some Tillman to, beethoven for sure and some folk from Grieg to finish it off with vivaldi violin playing...endless songs like this that achieved such a standar for classical playing and what music from the heart shows. Cheers everyone and good day. Weezy

"sir weezy" Jan 2016 « _179 dislikes? I can't find anything that could be better_ » The 1st reflex when not understanding someone is to think he is stupid. Some write at once based on this sole 1st impression, many more understand that the other too most probably has a brain, a heart, a sensibility, a wide (and possibly quite different) scope of interests, and surely a wide array of thoughtful reasons for the opinions and POV he displayed, as strange as they 1st look; as Darwin himself pointed ("Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge"), the most educated and instructed people rarely find someone else stupid. Here, while you indeed will probably find no or little people disliking the written music played, or not believing it was really written by a man called Mozart, you may find some who regret the relatively modern way it is played (with heavy "nuances", quite different from the 1950s, where there was less "TVish" immediate reactions to everything and more subtle resonance from listeners with the composer), or the way the sound is captured and the audio rendered. I am of those, and even after I thumbed up that video (and globally appreciated it highly), I still fully understand that some educated listeners and musicians can also dislike it. ***** We just gotta keep them alive
It's fascinating to think this music was praised 2 and 1/2 centuries ago, and we, people of 21st century, still love it.
When I first performed this i was thrilled , listening to this brought lots of happy memories, i remember sitting in the viola section by myself and seeing each other as we musicians connect through eye contact during rests, and our similar parts within the music.
@adriannafelton2220

I had a very similar experience when i first performed this. I feel like the best way to connect with someone is to play music with them, because you can convey so much more through music. I remember being in the Violin 1 section and watching the cellos, and being totally enthralled by the fact that i was a part of the beautiful sound that i heard.
I am proud to say that I grew up with mozart, Beethoven, Bach, etc and now I am searching my childhood in music
