Really helpful and useful. Joel, I sometimes watch your videos before my van breaks so I can prepare myself for the grazed knuckles and misery 😂

Thank you. You showed how to do this job perfectly.. You are a great teacher. You showed everything that needed to be told to do this job. You demystified ( simplified ) all those words for parts and where they are fitted to the vehicle. You have given me the confidence to do it myself. you made it look so simple. I can see physically it can be tough to undo some bolts and remove the rack by the wheel. I will buy that tool to separate that. You are fantastic and will save me a lot of money. More importantly. When you do the job yourself. It does wonders for your self esteem and confidence. Thanks for sharing that.. Good luck to you. Regards Dave

it was a bit of old fence but I could have used the file :)

haha yea the file still there, i would say it would of been good to see you try something rather than use the ball splitter, never seen or heard of one before

I don’t think I could have managed without the splitter. It was only £10, so an essential purchase for this job I reckon!

I should get a ball joint splitter. Without it you can do the job by jacking the track rod end up and out but it takes incredible force to pop it. It usually takes me hours to get them out!

It still took me 20 mins with the splitter. What a pain!

You can wedge the ball joint up from underneath with a little pressure and hit the arm it connects to downwards with a hammer

Hardest part of this job was getting the inner boot back onto the rack. I ended up having to snip the boot.

After you Jack the car up and put the stand in. Are you using that Jack or is it just there for a safety?
@JoelsStuff

I make sure the stand is securely holding the weight, and I leave the jack there as a backup. I also slide the wheel under the low point of the engine as a backup

Do you have to grease the ball joint before reassembling ??

Ive got an advisory for Front steering linkage ball joint. Are they talking about the track rod ends or something else?

It sounds like it’s the same as on this video, but I would double check. How exactly is the advisory worded?

Track rod ends I’d say as the rubber splits, the grease dries up and ends wear out, advisory on mine too, going to try and do them this weekend
