[ep25-s3] VW T4 Syncro's CV joints & drum brake adjusting What needs to know about? How To CV Joint rebuild..
I'll show you what you need to know about installing and adjusting drum brakes and how to remove the drum if it's worn. I will give a short presentation on which driveshaft joints will work on this 1995 VW T4 Syncro. These spare parts are the closest to the original quality available. I will also tell you about the qualities of protective boots/rubbers and what the difference is between the manufacturing materials.
💰 GKN LÖBRO CV joints:
⚙️ 302446 Outer TPE, made in Taiwan
⚙️ 302464 Inner NBR, made in Germany (including the bolts)
⚙️ 303450 Outer NBR, made in Taiwan
⚙️ 306054 Inner NBR, made in Germany (without the bolts)
💰 Boots:
⚙️ 306055 CV boot inner NBR, made in Italy
⚙️ 190971 CV boot outer Neoprene, made in Spain
I can't comment on which joints are suitable for your Syncro. These Volkswagen Syncros have had several different CV joints and this video only covers my late 1995 AAB-powered van.

I find watching the videos interesting and educational. I also maintain and restore a Transporter T4 1993 model,

Nicely done as always. Last summer I've been to Marocco with T4 Syncro AAB. I'm very happy with 195 80 15 tires and steel rims. On the dirt roads we reduced tire pressure to like 1.5bar to reduce vibrations. On sand I once hat to drop it to 0.8 bar. Sand driving with heavy T4 and AAB engine is possible but quite limited though. Even with short "CTV" gearbox. Nothing broke during the trip. My point is that I believe you made a very good choice with T4 for overlanding. The best insurance after all is rebulding your vehicle by yourself :-)

@@WannabeOverlander The T4s with "smaler" engines use the VAG MQ250 gearbox family. This gearbox has been produces for many years and in many car platforms. 4x4 version is slightly different to 2wd version, since it has to accomedate for angle drive gearbox. There has been different gear ratios on the market. Your "DDA" appers to have the shortes first gear possible, just like "CTV". I cant tell you the difference betwenn DDA and CTV though. Back in the days you could order this gear ratio at the dealership. It was labeled "Gebirgsübersetzung", which translates to like "gearing for mountain regions" :D. With AAB and your gearbox theres 3800Nm of torque total available to be diverted to the wheels (164Nm x 23,2). Practically it's a bit less because of efficency of the gearbox and viscous coupling. You can check out the table in the t4 wiki if you search for "Getriebekennbuchstabe". Also theres an automated excel table from an ex VW worker who worked at the gearbox plant in Kassel, Germany. He made that table just for fun, it's not an official document. Currently you can find it if you google "Getrieberechner VW" and look for the entry of the golf1wiki. You can type in your gearbox code and compare ratios, speeds and so. His name was "Nordhesse" and you can find his old postings in several forums. Another thing: be careful when replacing the rear differential or angle drive for replacement one from another car tough. Until 03/94 13:21 has been used between rear diff and angle drive. After that they went to 17:27. Be careful if you use a different Diff or angle drive that appears to be the same. That slight difference in ratios will cause permantent slip in the viscous coupling, leading to overheating and destruction of it. It's just a thing to keep in mind :-)

Thank you very much for the information. In fact, I have a service manual for the transmission, where I also found those gear ratios, I just didn't remember it. I checked that after the previous post. I have serviced the gearbox, bevel gear, rear differential and visco. They should be ready now as long as I get the engine done.
