VW Polo 1.2, 3 cylinder BMD engine - cylinder head reconditioned - burnt valves photos and video

Started off with a p0302 fault code cylinder 2 misfire after ruling out ignition failure attention was switched to compression test and as you can see from the video this led to reconditioning the cylinder head on the vw polo 1.2 bmd engine , new valves - valve stem oil seals - valve guides - head bolts - head gaskets some video clips and photos along the way from what started out as a p0302 misfire fault code to a cylinder head recon... enjoy any help or advise please message me... I’ll do my best to help. Enjoy

Thanks for the video. Have the same problem on my 08 Polo 1.6 Petrol. Started out as a misfire, low compression on 3 cylinders, removed the head and found out the valves were burnt

A friend's son had a Polo with this engine & I googled searched it when his car started running badly. I found out that these engines had so many design & quality of construction faults that it would be best if he just got rid of it & a professional mechanic was of the same opinion! It's beyond corrupt that major car manufacturers like VW can get away with selling vehicles that are not fit for purpose without properly compensating owners!

Excellent video. I'm currently in the same boat, the car is chugging along as if firing on 2. Spark at each plug rules out coil/plug problem. No oil/water cross contamination - might rule out head gasket leak. Have just done a compression test - Nos 1 and 3 reporting 220 psi, but No 2 only makes it to 180 psi and spark plug is wet - signalling possible valve problem. Did you find any camshaft index marks so it can be re-inserted correctly? Again, thank for posting a very visually clear demonstration.

Is heel makkelijk!

What were the symptoms except low pressure in the affected cylinder ? A friend of mine has a fabia with this engine 1.2 l, and at idle runs unevenly, no problem if it stays reved up over 1000 rpm, and one guy that tested his engine pressure said that he loses pressure in one cylinder.

Great video, really helpful. How much did it cost for the all of the parts? I got misfire issues with my Polo on Cylinder 1, it can't be coils or spark-plugs as their new but cylinder compression test came back as C1 - 162PSI, C2 - 175PSI and C3 - 174PSI, so Cylinder 1 has the lowest compression but no where near as bad as yours.

with my vw polo, the problem of misfires apears useually in the morning, and disappears after warming up, then sometimes it comes back. i checked the ignition as wel as the injectors( as my car has bifuel it was as easy as using the switch) when this problem apears my engine is limitid to 4000 revs and 130 km/h. it has fault codes 16725 cam shaft (position, sensor, wire) ,16684 (misfire) and 16555 (lean feul mixture) i drained my fueltank once so this is explaineble? im a bit puzzled because running on lpg the valves would have even more to suffer, however the above mensioned problemes are more electric, with that a valve problem could not come and go right?

@@LetsGammel1996 Check the stupid PCV valve. Mine was fucked and was drinking oil like a motherfucker. I noticed when I was opening the oil cap at idle that there was a very strong vacuum that made the engine run like shit and when I put the cap back it almost or even stalled. The valve is on the left, on the timing cover - a black mushroom thing with a hose running to the intake manifold. Held on with 2 5mm allen bolts underneath. You can open it and it's most likely fucked. Either replace the stupid thing if you got the money or semi-delete it like I did. If you're interested to tell you how I deleted it leave a reply here. Cheers!
