How can i change the plastic pin, it is broken i have another one but i dont know how to put it in the place of the broken one?

You guys are awesome. I must have watched a dozen other videos on changing the DSG knob but yours was the only one that was right. I swapped it out in under 5 minutes after watching yours.

This works for my MK6 GTI as well for anyone that owns a GTI!

The Mk5 is a bit different but there was enough info in this for me to figure it out. Thanks for the help. It was very valuable to me.

I like this vid. It was straight to the point with specifics. Although, I was doing a U-turn and while doing so, I accidentally pulled my shifter out. Know any places to get a Led light board for the shifter. My part is 5c7713203A OFN. E-Bay has a 5c7713203B OFN. Whats the difference, color?

If you're having trouble putting it again use a bit of grease on the metal shaft so the plastic part won't brake when you're pushing it

2.5ophisticated Mk6 I did it on a mk 5, it’s not bad at all, took maybe 20 minutes. Just follow his steps 👌🏼

how do you remove the shift knob from the shift boot?

Any idea on how to do this without the key? It’s a junkyard so they don’t have the key

You don't have to do all that. Put the shifter in D/pop the trim around the shifter/pull the boot up and pull up on the black plastic locking ring/pull up hard on the shifter. Once it's out DO NOT press the button or you won't be able to put it back unless you pop the silver dsg cover and mess with it.

@@sth801lifestyle once you remove the shifter the way I describe (without pressing the button) you'll notice that the button sticks out more than normal. That's called the "installed position". As long as you didn't press the the button while the shifter was out it will reinstall with no problems. But if you press the button while the shifter was out then you'll have to do as shown in this video in order to reinstall.

truth4reel I wish I would have read your comment before attempting this. I tried re-installing the knob because I got a new boot and snapped the white plastic part. Now there saying I got to buy a whole new assembly which wouldn’t be cheap. I’m wondering if there’s a cheap way to fix that part. You have any suggestions?

what do i do if the plastic white pin broke

So I was just messing with my shift boot but now my car won’t turn over. I never pulled the knob, just the cloth boot and plastic aluminum looking trim. A warning sound dinged but I thought it was because the door was open and the shifter was not in park, no warning lights indicating a problem. Anyone care to take a guess? I’m stumped.

Hello, I have a 2013 VW passat and I can't get the key out of the ignition. The problem started after hard stop to avoid collision and a box hit the shifter changing it from D to P. I can shift between "gears" without a problem, but once I put the car on P the ignition does not release the key. Any ideas of how can be fix? Thank you

What do you do when the white plastic clip breaks

Good video....though it can be done a little easier than this.....There's no need to expose the internals of the plastic rod/pin and gearshifter latch! The leather boot can be removed without taking off the whole trim surround and then the gearshifter just needs a good strong pull UP and it will come off and the button will stay in the re-install position (don't press the button in while pulling it up/off) Best to pull it off in N gear position so you don't whack anything on the dash.

Can anyone recommend where I can get the replacement shifter knob! I haven’t had any luck finding it online.. I’ve been finding the whole thing, and like the video shows, I only need the top part lol thanks in advance

Super glue, melted plastic arround, replace the part. If you can 3D printed

didnt know Steve-O was a car entusiast

My knob doesn’t have any of the plastic sleeving around the metal shaft. Instead, it has a metal band around where the knob connects to the shaft. Any suggestions?

Make sure you don’t break the little white plastic part when trying to put the shifter back on... they don’t sell that part by itself you’d have to buy the whole assembly and it’s not cheap

@@sth801lifestyle it is possible but you have to remove the whole center console pull the carpet so you have better access, it is difficult there's not much space to play arround

@@sth801lifestyle try this service manual, is for all models of 2011 mk6 www.manualslib.com/manual/1085181/Volkswagen-Jetta-2011.html You can download here. I haven't seen in depth videos of the 2.5 mk6 2011 (i own one) when fixing, so i rely on the service manual to fix stuff
