Those street lights are Sodium, very yellow is low pressure and the light yellow are high pressure. The turning circle is because it is RWD, therefore no constant velocity joints to limit the turning circle, a simple and straightforward explanation!

With the M3 LR, regen uses the front motor since the dynamic weight is shifted forward. With the rear being unloaded the tires might lock up on wet surfaces.

The orange lights are sodium, I think? The main reason for the smaller turning circle on RWD is the lack of a CV (constant velocity) joint that is required for FWD.

What I don't like about all the new LED matrix lights compared to the active Bi-Xenon lights is the uneven light, especially that the LED are darker and then suddenly brighter at the area where the low beam and high beam intersect.

What is the replacement cost for these lights? Some full headlight assemblies cost $2k to $7k on existing cars and these seem more sophisticated. If you get a minor ding and crack the housing is it going to cost thousands of dollars or 10k+ NK???

you have to check the cost of new lights when they need to be replaced after damage / failure. some cars then a single adaptive headlight costs 50000Nok + labor cost when replacing. not everything that is covered by warranty / insurance, such as wear and tear and the warranty period has expired

  • @DooMMasteR

Headlights are a safety feature so usually insurance will cover them here in Europe... But not always of course. The advantage is, that they have less mechanical parts than adaptive lights before had (no moving lense, no shutters, not apeture, so they are less like to fail).

I guess Skoda will offer better value, as is always the case but lack some comfort amenities that VW keeps exclusive for the main brand. VW however also tends to allow special exclusive features on the Skoda branded cars for the last years, so yeah it might be a tough choice for some, especially buyers...

As far as I know the regulations in USA prohibit MATRIX headlights. Audi are well known for their light innovation, but you can’t get it in USA. I don’t know if you can in Canada or Mexico. On the other hand in USA headlights are allowed to emit more light without light washers, that’s why Model 3 should have better lights in USA, compared to Europe

They went away from Mobileye and created their own Autopilot. Most of their functional stuff are provided by themselves. I don’t really think they’d implement a proprietary solution, when they got really good software engineers. It will take time, but the lights are good as they are now, but will become better with time.
