DCOE carbs have not cold starting system. :)

It's definitely not a carby problem is it. Weak spark or timing issues.(Includes valve) Any engine should immediately start with or without a carburettor in position. As long as fuel is supplied to intake manifold, THE ENGINE MUST FIRE STRAIGHT AWAY, with a mechanically and correctly timed engine.

I would say you go through at least 10 starters in a year

i give the fuel pump time to set once i turn the key, then in cold start , i just pump the gas a lil and its gtg

That sound nice dude, but it did sound like the flaps were opening to early for the air to be sucked in. Just an observation I may be wrong :) Good to see a clean looking gti once and a while!

That's either the carb is not set right, or the timing. My Mk2 Jetta 1.8 had that same starting problem, in my case it was the timing.

VERY nice video, it still starts pretty quick, I would say....

1 minute 20 seconds? It starts quick? Really? Even i can hear those carbs need to be set properly when he tried to rev it up a bit

solved a very similar problem time ago...... i would try a bit bigger choke nozzles :-) realy pretty ... i love those oldschool cars... especially with tuned N/A Engines with carbs !

hey, mine started when it was cold then it stopped and I thoug that it was the gas i put some and the it wont start, i charge the battery and it wont start again.

It reminds me of why I choose efi! Starts at first everytime. But you probably can correct or at least improve that a bit with different choke settings.

@chevalier2000 c'est précisé qu'il n'y a pas de starter. Et les golfs 1 sont 10 fois mieux que les nouvelles golfs avec les boites dsg automatiques..

Je savais pas que les vieille golf était aussi pourrie à démarré par un froid classic. On a facilement -5°C en France (sauf cote d'azur). Il faut être motivé :) Au canada avec -20°C je pense que c'est sans espoir.
