GTE mode requires a minimum battery charge level to work 'fully'. If the battery is lower than this, the car will charge it (by burning more fuel)

No problem. As fuel is expensive (where I live at least), it's best to use hybrid mode, unless you feel the need for the fun of the GTE button.."If you let the EV battery run flat in emode, and then switch to hybrid, it will put back about 3 EV miles. If you put it in GTE mode, it will charge to about 10 EV miles"

Thk you very much, you add alot of good information ! I drive always in Electric of hybrid mode, in my country it is expensive and i can not drive so fast because the tickets are very expensive to. :)

Me too was considering switching my polo for this baby

I remember posting three years ago and I just got a response. Anyway to be clear. In GTE mode the car will change the battery. But you should not drive in GTE mode and B mode. You are using fuel to create charge. It's counter productive. Put the bloody car in drive not B for battery

Maybe smart to not drive in “GTE” mode because this is sport mode it means it burns more fuel and have more turbo power so made to drive sportive. And your in traffic so just drive normal hybrid mode it save you half the petrol tank.

"Battery Charge" and "GTE-Mode" are two completely different things. Furthermore, the fuel consumption is relatively low even when you drive a lot on battery charge;

Yes agreed, as is the case with my Passat GTE. If I'm on a long journey which usually is, CITY-MOTORWAY-CITY in terms of the Route. I use charge mode once I've used up my EV range (speeds up to 40mph). That's usually because I have more city driving to do later in that journey. Yes it uses a little more petrol lowering the mpg somewhat but the gains are more when it allows me again to use EV mode on them city roads. The effect on overall mpg is better than just running hybrid mode once the battery is flat.

Interesting - your drive options are different to my GTE. The options I have are electric, hybrid, battery hold and charge. Also GTE mode option by the gear-lever.

B mode is just regenerative breaking.

Go in petr9l mode. It won’t charge. Charge it at home or on long downhill runs. Easy

There is no petrol mode, there is Auto mode also charging via the ice isn't too bad

The car is charging the battery because you have it in B mode (battery) not D mode (drive). You need to pull the gear lever down so it goes back to D mode. Look on the left hand dial. It says B4 or B5 depending on the gear.

@@DiDeST pretty much forever as the car tops it up using petrol.

I dont understand why you are surprised that the car is charging. GTE mode is about maximum power and extra power that you are not using is sent to the battery.

Yep, It’s incredibly annoying and incredibly stupid … I do not want my GTE to waste petrol charging the battery … I can do that at home from cheap mains power.

Without battery power, there' no GTE mode, that's why it's charging.

Seriously. Does anyone read the manual or online information. How can you not have been told by VW how the car works. Hilarious. Or you could be more observant.
