VW Caddy Van 1.9 TDI Front Wheel Bearing.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This 2010 VW Caddy van needed its front wheel bearing replacing. It had done 245000 miles so was about due.
The same bearing is used in some models of the VW Passat, Skoda Octavia & Audi A3.

    Lack of rust over here is what got me back into fixing cars. When everything is seized or fighting you the whole way it gets pretty depressing. Another quality fix

    Thanks man. Corrosion can bring a whole workshop to a halt with the extra time needed to fight through it! Other times it looks worse than it is.

    Good video ,I had a caddy like that and there was a place on the inside the caliper that would catch pebbles off the road which would proceed to machine the inside of the disc making a horrendous noise.

    Nice video, Rob. After watching most of your video's it's surprising how many of your cars there are very similar to ours mechanically in Canada now. Mostly the model names are different. Years ago our cars were much different than the UK versions.

    wysetech2000 I think cars worldwide are very similar now. Although Canada and US appear to have larger gas guzzling engines than European vehicles.

    *Thanks for the video* I have an identical 2010 Caddy Maxi (even same colour!) and I noticed the o/s bearing started grumbling last night. Unfortunately poor health and not having all the tools will mean I need to use a local indie VW garage here in Cornwall, but I wanted to know how hard the job is and get an idea of what I;m likely to be charged. Should an hours labour cover the replacement? I think they're great van and the 1.9 in mine gets an oil change every 10k miles. It's done just over 314k now and is still going well. Anyway, thanks again.

    No problem. I'm a mere DIY'er on my own/family vehicles. But, one of my customers runs a busy garage and has Alldata and some of their information needs some "creative thinking". It's as if the people writing it haven't turned a ratchet before :-)

    How did you get the alignment on the ball joint? I usually remove the pinch bolt, then lift off the ball joint / wishbone, so alignment is maintained. I've done this on Mk2 Golfs and Mk 4 Polos. Yet to do a Caddy 2K.

  • @OneAuto

    @OneAuto

    7 жыл бұрын

    No need for alignment on these. Three ball joint studs fit into three holes in lower arm. No adjustment necessary

    I'm surprised that VW isn't bringing these Caddy's into North America... heck, there are a lot of VW / Audi Euro models that would do well here (in my opinion). Ford is selling something here that looks similar. I love how VW / Audi keeps things similar between platforms / generations. A lot of manufacturers tend to "reinvent the wheel" with every new generation of model / platform.
