Though more than sad to see the worlds best GT rider Jonas Vingaard being sacrificed for US TV stations ratings and ability to sell more soap commercials. Paying back to a great help rider means giving stage wins not demoting him from taking a GT win for the second time in a season and space in the biggest cycling histroy books. I stopped watching the last stages when it became clear what were going on. Rally a sad ending in my book. Jumbo could still have taken position 1,2,3 and let the real winner win.

@@norman-gregoryno one knows the future. Now, roglic may never equal or exceed the record of 4 vuelta wins. Now vingegaard May never be a rider that wins all 3 gts. You trespass against those riders dreams and talents you don’t know what the consequences in the future will be. V is a threat to break the record by Merckx of most gt wins. If he falls one short we have to look at jumbo team management that went back on its word to roglic and vingegaard pre-start that the best rider wins. Going back on your word is a form of dishonesty. Dishonesty eats away at a team, a company, a relationship, a family. This dishonest, backtracking decision by management is the seed to tear this team down, and apart

I’m going to give this flashback. I’m 17 years old, just graduated high school. I’m watching the Tour de France. An American wins on the final day. Watching this team this year has come very, very close to the excitement I felt back in 1989. Especially seeing Sepp win the Vuelta. As for those that think the best man didn’t win….cycling is a team sport, Sepp was in Red. Jonas and Primo did what they were supposed to do. The TEAM had the jersey. Could one of the other two have won? Maybe. But that’s not how the game is played. Sepp is well deserving of his victory. I can’t wait to see what is in store for next season.

I think in the final stages in Spain there was a communication breakdown (different languages in play unfortunately) but once that hiccup got sorted out it was opened up for Sepp Cuss all the way. Great achievement for the Jumbo team, which now has 3 rotating leaders it seems. 👍🏻

Hey Jumbo-Visma, a question: The rumours about your new title sponsor seem to be getting stronger. Oil money according to most, probably with more than a strong hint of human rights abuse too, whether or not they themselves talk about futuristic green innovation. I hope these rumours are wrong, but the commentators in question are well-connected and often right about their various predictions. So I can’t help but wonder how such sportswashing (maybe even combined with greenwashing) squares with #samenwinnen, your standards/values, and desire to write sporting history. After all, if we keep frying the planet while treating each other like shit there won’t be a whole lot of human history left within just a few decades and sports won't be at the forefront of anyone's mind. *In other words, will your standards and ambitions truly influence your choice of title sponsor or will you engage in some serious cognitive dissonance and join hands with one of the biggest fossil fools on the planet?* I know this type of question is mostly a no-go in cycling, but since you say you’re all about facing up to what isn’t working and improving it where you can, as well as having carefully developed a team culture in which being able to call each other out, compassionately, is fundamental, and I believe you when you say this, I have to assume it’s okay with you to ask things like this. Especially seeing as the climate crisis is already impacting GTs and other races directly, not to mention the indirect impacts.
