A distinctly peculiar English pastime. At the end of each run, the mud on each car is weighed and the car with the most mud wins.

@Military Museum - it helps the standard road tyres (all they're allowed) dig in and grip. If you listen carefully you can hear the revs drop slightly as their bums hit the seats and the tyres get more grip. HTH.

Thanks for that footage. Do you happen to know if the MG J2 (reg. FW3909) owned by I believe a Mr Bennett is still being shown outings? I don't see it in this film. I ask because the car was originally owned by my grandfather and I keep a look out for it...

Not a good idea, you’ll lose the other one when you do participate. Then you’ll be asking for the return of the one you gave away.

It’s not actually expensive. These trials have taken place since the early days of the motor car. The main prerequisite is having an eligible vehicle.

I really liked this video. Some of the cars are unknown to me. Could you tell me what the cars are at 1:22 and at 2:00 ? They are really cute and small. They appear to be about the same size as a Smart fortwo,

I'm no expert but I think they tend to be vehicles manufactured in the 30's. Perhaps someone with more knowledge will add a comment.

@@peterjbrown1458 The VSCC was formed in 1934 to ensure continued enjoyment and preservation of pre-1931 cars. It essentially remains so although there have been exceptions to the date cut-off for certain vehicles conforming to standards established at the Club's inception. The cars shown here date from before 1931, in many cases from the late 1920s. Some are extremely valuable which makes their vigorous enjoyment all the more pleasing! Nice bit of filming, too....

The objective is to get to the finish without stopping. So, speed is not an issue as long as the car moves forward.
