Vrook Lamar on Dantooine

Ойындар

Jedi Master Vrook Lamar. As far as I'm concerned, he's the greatest fool to ever sit on the Jedi council. He is the perfect example of Jedi arrogance.
I had a hard time making this video, and even considered skipping it for a while. Vrook's inane babble was such nonsense it was putting me to sleep.

    The worst part about Vrook was that he ignored the answer in front of him, that is what makes him a great character for this story. He represents the inability to comprehend the nature of the echoes because he is too proud, too dogmatic to see beyond. It is the very same reason why he died so easily when Kreia had her power fully restored.

    MunFurai My understanding of the echoes is they are a result of mass death and tragedy being transmitted through the Force. This causes pain, suffering and even death to other people who can perceive through the Force. Vrook’s failing is focusing on the dark side’s influence in the Mandalorian Wars and the fall out from all the death and destruction. Vrook thinks the blame for the echoes / screams is only the dark side, when it has more to do with the Force’s imposition of its will in people’s lives and how self-destructive both the Jedi and Sith are in their blind pursuit of power - regardless of their intentions. If there were no Force, the loss of life would have been significantly less or non-existent during the Mandalorian Wars since Malachor V would not have attracted so many Jedi and Sith.

    Not really the dark side, but more like "you're wrong". He thinks the Jedi are always right and if you don't fall in line with their thoughts exactly, then you're wrong and undisciplined. Almost like "discipline" to him means "indoctrination". Blind obedience. Atris on the other hand, was the one who thought that if you're not following the ways of the Jedi to the letter then you've fallen to the dark side. She has a black and white view of the world.

The fact I saved Khoonda is proof I had a larger plan ! He goes for a similar plan in the rare mercenary route ! So much for the greater good.

    If you use Force Sight on Vrook, you will see that he's just barely attuned to the Light Side, just one millimeter above neutral. Kavar on the other hand is so deeply immersed in the Light Side, that he's practically a shining beacon. The irony is that Vrook follows the Jedi Code religiously, while Kavar just focuses on being a good man and doing what's right. Shows how much the Jedi Code corrupts the Light Side of the Force.

    Came here in remembrance of Ed Asner. Jedi Master Vrook Lamar was a stern, dogmatic, blind, arrogant man who spent his entire tenure as a Jedi corrupting the Order with teachings that would ultimately go on to destroy them. As far as I'm concerned, he is one of my least favorite Jedi in the Old Republic era. And that is why I not only respect the complexity of the character, but Ed Asner as well for bringing this character to life. Asner's skill, talent, and genius as an actor is what allows us as KOTOR fans to feel so strongly about Vrook; without his outstanding performance, Lamar wouldn't have stood out from your average dogmatic Jedi, like the ones we've seen in the PT era. And so, even though I feel intense disdain for Vrook, I will always remember and appreciate Ed Asner's portrayal of the character; from the deep, gravelly voice to the stern, dogmatic rigidness of the character. May he rest in eternal peace 🙏💯.

  • @austinkersey2445

    @austinkersey2445

    My only gripe here is that the PT era Jedi do have distinct personalities and characterizations. The problem with them is that all of their character comes almost purely from novels and comics. Not even TCW (2008) does them any serious justice unfortunately. One of my favorite examples of this is Mace Windu. Sure he's your zealotous Jedi figure . . . but he's also kind and compassionate towards his fellow Jedi, is highly intelligent and perceptive, and believed in the sanctity of life. He is cold, grim, and serious to a fault, but he is harsh because he cares. He believes in the good within people and wants them to be better than they are. People cite his dislike towards Anakin as a huge negative, but I mean if you had a guy in his twenties who just got knighted less than a year ago screaming about being "on the Council without the rank of Master" I think you'd be pretty peeved too. That dislike also sprang from Anakin being a braggart and more than a bit of a wild child. There's also the fact that his Padawan, Depa Billaba, was basically his surrogate daughter and he was able to love her without being attached to her. Hell, his greatest motivation (beyond his Light Side or Jedi beliefs) was the belief that peace was created by civilization and that the Republic was the ultimate civilization (which he was willing to do anything to preserve). You just don't get that outside the books and comics. That said, Vrook is one of my favorite KOTOR characters because of Ed's performance. He killed it. R.I.P. big man.

The problem is that ending the Dantooine arc this way means that Vrook will still attack you as though you had fought with the mercenaries. Its such an interesting kind of character, they are despicable not just because they are wrong and refuse any argument about it, but because you know he have the ability to know otherwise, he is no fool, he know how to read between the lines, to understand the repercussion of actions and see bigger pictures than hemself (when the MC of kotor one was trained he was kind of right to believe that was a REALLY risky move) the problem is, as i see it, that he always thought that, as long as the code is followed, he will eventally be proven right about his method, his prejudices, his zealous nature towards those that dindt fit the council (his) standards and, he refuse to admit any doubt, for him the only other answer was what led to the dark side, so it was easy for him to ignore the painting in wall since jedi code was the only right answer in his mind, even(specially) when it doesnt answer the question. WHich is why i feel that he resentment towards the exile is far more evident *just i case HUGE SPOILERS AHEAD FOR KOTOR 1* With Revan in kotor 1, he was looking to a blank slate, he still feel it was a mistake to train them again, but his "tolerance" on training them come as a form to say "ok now we get to fix their mistake, i dont like it, but maybe i can make them see how wrong theywere" but with the exile is nothing like that, they dont have any memory issue, they remember well what went down, and if player choose to do so, you can stand firm on their decision of going to the war was the right call, which would only makes him the more hostile toward them (make no mistake, if you show regret he will chew you on about all the jedi virtues you somehow lack no matter how incorrect this is, and if you show aggression then he just goes back on feeling vindicated on being right about you) and the major problem is that when confronted with an opossing truths, he fall back on the code, i doesnt matter if it doesnt fit as an asnwer, what matter is that he feels like he will eventually be proven right, at the end that whats truly important to people like him when reality is proving you otherwise. And here, he is just trying to forcefully ( no pun intended) fit the narrative that this whole mess i because of Revan and their followers, he dont care what happened anymore, he doesnt care about what truth, whats fair, what correct, he just need to feel vindicated.

After you leave the cave, the merc leader will approach you with an offer to help them. From there, you can attack or say you'll help, Whether that's a lie or not is up to you. Is it just me, or is Vrook a lot like Snape? Think about it, they both constantly berate the main character (of both games) for little to no reason, and plus they both just have an evil vibe to them (there are other things too)

    Yeah, but at least Snape has a tragic backstory and he while being a dick towards Harry, he did save his life a couple times and he constantly put himself in danger while spying on Voldemort. Vrook on the other hand is just an ignorant fool who can't see the truth when it's right in front of him and hides behinds the jedi's teachings, even though he himself doesn't truly follow them.

    The answer was the exile. Walking, talking, living proof that the force is overhyped. You don't need it directing your life to survive or thrive. Valuable lessons that you learn only when you let go of it. Echoes are just the idea of actions affecting countless other actions. Decisions may seem like they happen in a static environment but really they go on to affect other people's lives and their decisions which go on to do the same.

    It might have been the respective writers from KOTOR 1 (Drew Karpyshyn) and KOTOR 2 (Chris Avellone) or it was established from preceding materials like books and comics. Canonically Revan was male and the Exile was female. But as far as the games are concerned, it doesn't really matter.

    Canonically, hey? ) Who's to establish the canon? The old republic is not included in official canon at all, they say. That's not a canon. That is stupid fanfics of people intended making money only. May I also write some of a book where suddenly Revan changes gender? Would it be considered canonic? They all are parasitic on this story which must've been ended by the moment of Darth Tray death. They should have developed current characters instead of concocting ancient sith Empires and its Emperors. As Darth Tray said, Sith Empires are in your heads. Or something of a kind. KOTOR is about corruption of Jedi Order, of ignorance, prejudice, Jedi pride lead to terrible consequences. This story truly can be much more deeper without them ancient Sith Empires bullshit.

  • @PapitoQinn

    @PapitoQinn

    Darth Traya actually does tell the exile that the true sith empire was out in the unknown reasons. Multiple times, the game mentions that Revan went off to fight it. They were building to it, probably for KOTOR 3 that never happened. The sith wouldn't exist without the Jedi. The existence of the sith alone, is a point of criticism towards the Jedi. That's why they're relevant. As for what's considered canon, people look towards official releases for that kind of information. Lucasarts published comics and books that established that Revan was male and the Exile was female. But now, with Disney starting a new continuation, all of this is considered non-canon, at least within the Disney-verse.

    I don't know, man. I always saw this story too much in my own way. After all I'm a bird. Not even a human if you must know. I always loved the KOTOR II and the Exile more than Kotor I and Revan. I only remember that when Traya said that the Exile was the greatest she had ever trained then right away it became clear to me that had not she killed Revan but maybe did something to her with the Force again. Traya and Vrook Lamar are terrible persons. Evil ones, dark ones. Jedi Exile gave up the force and became stronger, invulnerable to them Force trickstings. Ok, never mind. The thing is, this story touched me too much years ago. I see it to much in my own way. See its beauty. Its very wound in the Force. This story is much more and more than all the episodes of them Star Wars.
