I just tried the Quest 3 for a week and took it back. I can't begin to understand how people say this like somehow it isn't obvious it's still a game in VR. It's neat, but it's too much hassle, too expensive, too uncomfortable and realistically doesn't add much.

Some facts for VR newcomers: while wearing a VR headset, you see the game world in real 3D and all objects in 1:1 scale. It just feels like you are IN the game. You DON'T have the feeling to have displays very close to your eyes, like some people might think.

With VR I got motion sick and headset was also uncomfortable after 30 minutes. It wasn't a great headset admittedly so I'll give it another go when they improve. Just got the quest 3 for sim racing. Already had my triple screen stand, but Im emigrating soon so avoiding getting more gear at the moment. I will no longer be going triples. Just uninstalled all of my non VR games. Nothing compares to being in the actual car. Pimax headsets look too uncomfortable. Raced 20 hours this weekend with the Q3. Took me 3 weeks to get everything dialed in and set up ti where I want it. But hardly any discomfort using the quest 3 for that length of time. Did buy a aftermarket head strap. Love the pancake lenses on the Quest 3. Threw up from motion sickness on my 3rd day. It took.2 weeks and now I no longer suffer from motion sickness. i may get the Big Screen VR headset. Comfort is everything especially because of the length of time I spend in my rig

Pimax is definitely the least comfortable headset right now. The sheer weight puts a ton of stress and physical pain on your nose bridge while turning the head rapidly, and the scalp areas under the headstrap start to ache after a couple of hours. The only way it can be comfortable to wear is if it had an actual racing helmet form-factor. That said, it has unmatched FoV and resolution, which is extremely important in VR. If you can get conditioned to the unwieldy nature of Pimax, it easily blows out of the water every other headset.

I started with triples, and later went VR with the Quest 2. Definitely a step up in immersion, but also not too comfortable and unsharp. I left it for two years, and actually tried to sell it. A month ago I picked it up again and tweaked the hell out of it. I have a 2080 super, so no powerhouse. But I got it working to a degree that it now is too good to not use it anymore. But still, for me it is triples AND VR. They work both in it's own context...

I had been bouncing back and forth from triples, to VR, to even ultrawide monitors. As I've gotten older and have less free time to do sim racing, I've decided that I just want to have fun with it. And the way VR sucks me into the race can not be beat by any screen. It is a pain not having sight of my keyboard and stream deck (as a button box), but it's worth the trade-off. Plus, since I have less time, I usually just do fixed racing on iRacing or single player in other sims for the vibes. EDIT: Get the Quest 3 over the 2! It's a night and day difference. Convinced one of my friends to upgrade too (they also were going back and forth) and the 3 made them switch to VR.

I do simracing exclusively in VR since about 2017 and i can't go back.😎 And yes, you have to deal with some shortcomings in comparison to monitors. It can be slightly more uncomfortable wearing a VR headset for hours (or in other words ... it can get sweaty).😓 This also depends on the headset. My Bigscreen Beyond is much more comfortable than a very heavy Pimax Crystal. And yes, you have to handle all your dials and buttons on your steering wheel or button boxes blindly. You have to get used to this, but it's not impossible. And even if your FOV is way smaller than on a triple monitor setup, looking around in VR feels pretty natural and isn't a dealbreaker. All the shortcomings aside, racing in VR rewards you with the best immersion you can get. The virtual world feels 1:1. And because all is in 3D you get a better sense for distances, elevation, braking points etc.

Make sure you try it in VR first before spending money on a VR setup - on average 40 - 65% of people get severe motion sickness using VR in driving games making it unsable for these types of games - so don't waste your money until you test yourself first, if that is the only reason you are buying VR. Also, constant VR use can be VERY tiring. They can be hot, heavy, and cause visual stress.

Been using VR since day one ..not going back. This together with a 3DOF system and you are in racing heaven. For sim flying nothing beats VR and a 6DOF. 😉 Ps don't have to change the batteries ever when you use a powered USB hub. Btw discussions about fov is useless in simracing. If you have ever raced with full racing gear (helmet and fireproof gear) you should know it also limits your actual fov. And can get very hot and sweaty. So if you want true immersion VR is the way to go.

for FOV I don’t think we need 160 degrees on VR, but some solution for peripheral vision would be valuable - eg lower res LCDs to create ‘motion’ that your brain will notice, and then you can look in that direction for more detail. I think that could help a lot bridge the gap with the triples

Recently got into vr thanks to my father who gave me is acer ah101 and i'm not going back to triple, it's not the most "fluid" experience sometimes especially when you try to stream but it's definitely worth it if you're looking for the most immersive experience, i'm not playing in any competitive environment so i can't say how good it is but yeah i'm having a blast. One thing to note is that it can get straining really quick though, in my case i can play for about 2h max without a break when in comparison i can play for all day long without a break on triple screens. Time of day also affect (in my case at least) how long i can play, i find that driving night time touge is by far the most straining (even if it's a blast) i think the fact that VR is more straining is a good thing though cause i'm not spending nearly as much time playing but when i do i'm having the time of my life and enjoy the tiniest things like looking to the side to see your buddy flying past you on the shutoko freeway is one of these things. You definitely need a better pc for VR compared to triple or you'll have to lower graphics by quite a lot but it's definitely worth it, i haven't really done time attack yet so i cannot talk about "competitiveness" but overall i don't think it'll be an issue, i think it'll actually be an advantage because everything feels more "real"? Before the VR headset i didn't touch the game for multiple weeks but when i started drifting again in VR the difference was night and day. i guess the break helped in a way but the VR make it so much easier

After 25 years of multiple monitor setups, and 8 years of VR, I can say the way you enjoy a sim or video game is incredibly personal and up to the user to determine what they really want. That said, multi monitors usually isn't for the faint of heart. I have a lifetime of editing config files so it doesn't phase me, where the average user that is a lot to ask. VR out of the box or a single projector works the best.

the thing with VR is that some people cant stand it. But if you can it's the best experience period. For my personnal experience : the first days i could only do sessions of up to 20min, it would make me lightheaded and dizzy, then i got used to it. Some people never get used to it. Being able to see in 3D and actually see the size of your car around you greatly helps immersion and driving, also the interiors are now something you look at before you start driving. I brake so much better compared to when i played on flatscreen plus when you're turning your head it's actually happening. VR needs serious horsepower but once you set it up correctly, you never play flat again. First VR headset was a rift s in 2019, we're in 2024 , i'm using the reverb G2 ( it has flaws but once it's working it's working) and man what an experience. Assetto + competizione mainly for me.

It was really bad but my understanding of racing went up 500%. I ride a motorbike in life, VR gives me a similar view point. I can see the track a lot more, like when I'm on the bike. My levels of concentration are massively increased. It's just a lot more fun imo. When I'm not on VR, it's a single 55 inch 4k TV. I think my perfect set up, is a double 55 inch 4k screen set up. I think a lot don't do triples cos of the cost. Pc powerful enough to run 3, triple stand like £250 plus 3 monitors. Probably about £1k easy. That's buying cheapish monitors. My pc so under used lol. What im trying to say is that cheaper vr doesn't necessary mean that you need less "juice" to run it smooth. If SteamVR and discussion of lens barrel distortion compensation is anything to go by, you need higher software resolution to the amount of 1.4x to 1.5x compared to hardware resolution to essentially see native hardware resolution, so the total pixel count for VR in this video is much lower than it should be.

VR everytime, for me. 3d vs a 2d flat image is no competition. I have tried triple monitors at a friends house and it just never felt immersive enough. In VR, you feel like you are there, but you do need to map your wheel to how you need it. If you need to look at your controls and have a Quest 3, you can set up the boundry so you can lean forward a little to see the passthrough. That's how mine is set up.

If you want a decent monitor expect to pay at least 600 to 700. So let's say 3 of those cost you around 2000, and then I didn't even mention the mounting system you'll need to keep youe monitors up and safe. Or the space it consumes. I can buy a vr headset with controllers under 1000 and it gives even more immersion. I would say unless you get motion sick from VR, it's really not even an argument which one is better.

For me the biggest difference is ease of use. I agree that with VR its more imersive and I do feel I drive better with it. That said the sweaty head from hours of use, the sheer amount of fiddling about with it, the adjustments of seat positions everytime you get up and sit back down makes me move towards triples or a large curved instead.

I'm a motorcycle rider, so having a helmet on while riding in real life is just how it is, and for many professional racing on a track helmet would also be required. They get sweaty at times, so a VR headset for me isn't that bad but I can see how you'd be uncomfortable with it. As for fiddling around with it, it's not that bad. I find having to use a keyboard to access additional options while behind the wheel more of a pain in games than anything a VR headset puts me through.

I’m vr only, I’m all about immersion and nothing comes close to vr when it comes to immersion! Vr gets more and more popular as each year passes. It will continue to grow as folks start upgrading their older pcs. Entry level headsets are so cheap now and there’s a whole lot of sim racers upgrading their older pcs to this or last gen gpu’s and then this gives them the option to try vr properly. I see it everyday over the last nearly four years, people upgrade to a 30 or 40 series card and one of their first next purchases is a vr headset!

This is a plus and a minus because you are disconnected. Sometimes my son runs up to me to show me something and it is not convenient to take off the set every time. However, taking part in the race and riding in general, I am in seventh heaven. I think that 3 screens have no chance with VR

I dont see this mentioned so much but in VR across all sims the graphical imperfections get amplified for example shimmering shadows and low res scenery textures, overly wobbly windy tree effects etc really brake my immersion. It feels like being in a computer game , where I can see how the illusion is being created . On the triples , these imperfections are harmonised and I can achieve a much more natural looking image to my eyes which gives me a greater sense of immersion. Its hard to explain but for me VR feels like looking closely at the graphical components of the game engine, not the overall scene.

guys, if you are on a thight budget you should do what I did to completely change your sim racing experience. I have little to no space in my room and I used to play on my laptop's screen, wich was terrible as it's a 16" display, literally smaller than my rim... I already spent all my budget on the wheel and pedals and I was left with 120 euros, that could have got me like a 1080p 75hz crappy monitor, but instead I choose to try and get a used Windows Mixed Reality Vr headset, they go for 60-90 euros and they don't need too much gpu power to run (I use mine with a laptop rtx 3060 at max res (1440) and max fps (90)). You will need a bit of time to set it up as you will have to do a lot of optimization to do in terms of perfomance. But I really think it's a greate deal as it let's you have a much better experience than a cheapo screen and if try it and don't like it you can very easily sell it for the same price you bought it for...

The Vive was a nice toy, but my PC wasn't powerful enough, the headset was wired, and the resolution sucked. Skip to 2021 and I got the Quest 2. Wireless with a much better screen. I also upgraded my rig. Since then, I have acquired a Quest 3, G2, Quest Pro, and PSVR2. I can spend almost all day inside the headset eating, watching movies, playing 2D games in a theater, chatting, etc. Do you understand the hype of playing Mario Party 6 in a virtual theater with your friends in VR!? It's amazing. Only reason I'd get triples is for games that refuse to work with VR. There is just no comparison

Optimal resolution to get best clarity is 4300x5100 pey eye !!!!!!! Now the pixel count your computer needs to render is nearly 22million. Thats nearly as much as triple 4k monitors. Btw same goes for every headset. Quest 2 and 3 you need to set it to x1.5 resolution to have a decent clarity

Anyone who says no to VR ain't had the right experience on VR, And I only got a Quest 2, Gutted I did not get the Quest 3, I really is, I can't go back to my TV screen now, After trying Dirt Rally 2 out, With simple specs, An i5 12600k and a 12gb 3060, I do think the 12gb of vRam is helping the 3060 out, But I got over 60fps and the latency was 3ms and 1ms last night, With High settings still looks great smooth gameplay, No stutters, VR is a total different experience since I been on the PSVR, I payed more for the PSVR than the quest 2, And the PSVR crap, A total waste of money, I have learned over time now, And wasting money on a console, I wish I just got a PC in the first place, Sim Racing is a world apart from using the console, But yeah for a few hundred pounds and a VR ready PC, VR is blown me away, I got the Elite strap with a 500mAH battery on it, Much more comfy, And 8 hours at least of straight gameplay, As a stand alone I will get at least 6 hours.... Yeah I won't be going back to the TV screen in a hurry, AMS 2 is fantastic in VR, I do think so far Dirt Rally 2 got the VR looking and playing the best so far for me, I get issues with ACC at the moment, I done some thing, I cant get the steering wheel straight, It goes to the right a bit, I can't figure out how to center the steering wheel or cockpit in ACC, How do I center it on ACC? Yeah for me VR have changed Sim Racing to another level, In fact it feels like I am learning the tracks again, And can see when the car is going to mess up, The back end swinging out, It is easier to catch, VR would make drifting easier too, I seen a video someone using Beam NG as a learning tool for drifting, For me that is fantastic, But I can't get Beam NG to work on the Quest 2, Please can someone let me know how to get Beam NG working on the Quest 2, I would love to do some police chases in VR..... Yeah I bet when people actually try VR, That person will be nor no way, I am using VR from now on, And the fact you can do multiplayer racing people on AMS 2 online in VR is mind blowing for me, I used to dream of having my own Arcade Sim Racing machine, I blew so many pound coins in things like Out Run, lol, I used to live in Blackpool, And yes I blew a fair few quid in the arcades, lol, Coral Island had a round thing, Jet fighting game, that when upside down all degrees of movement, One of those with a VR headset on, Yeah VR have blown my head compared to when I tried the PSVR and the older Oculus, VR is on another level, And with the amount of things that VR can be used for, A whole new world is being opened....
