    How do you replace all of the colors on the top with the shades of green after doing rand 1 6? When I try I just end up making only making the same color pixels that are touching that color not all of them.

    MagicaVoxel has had a few updates since this came out. The “Replace Voxel Color” Tool (paint bucket icon) now can replace either All Colors (old) or Colors Connected by Region (new default). So under the paint bucket tool you’ll see new menus that aren’t visible in this video. Go to the Region menu and click the single large square (same color) instead of the 4 small squares (connected region). That should fix it for you.

    @Voxelize Instead of going through all the rigmarole of using another program for your palette you can just drop your "block.png" on the palette 1st and then drop the "block.png" into the scene. This get you the correct palette without using another program and gives better results IMHO.

  • @Voxelize

    Ah yeah, good note! I didn't know that was a feature at the time - I'm not sure it's referenced anywhere in documentation - maybe a tweet or video from Ephtracy I might have missed. Not sure how the results are any different since it should all be the same colors and I think some might benefit from learning more about how the palette system works, but it's good to know about that shortcut. In some cases you might not be dealing with a PNG with a tightly indexed palette, so this gives you the chance to customize in an image editor with some powerful palette editing features and be more selective with your tile import.

  • @Voxelize

    @Voxelize

    2 жыл бұрын

    The only tool I know of off the top of my head that supports taking textures from meshes and turning them into color voxels is Qubicle. If you buy through Steam it's an added DLC - a fairly expensive tool but useful if you need to do that sort of conversion a lot. It's last update was 2017 though, so beware there might not be a lot of support left for this tool.

  • @Voxelize

    @Voxelize

    3 жыл бұрын

    JackityCarver128 this is a new default behavior in MagicaVoxel. Instead of dropping the pixel art into your current object, it’s creating a new object. Press tab to enter the currently selected object (by default the new pixel art object will be the one selected). You can press tab to jump back and forth between object mode to edit the voxel models and scene mode to arrange multiple models for larger compositions.

  • @Voxelize

    @Voxelize

    3 жыл бұрын

    Please note: VoxEdit does not import MagicaVoxel files with multiple objects, so you’ll have to delete the original volume that the file started with, or use the VOX export option if you plan on bringing the pixel art to The Sandbox marketplace. I have a video about moving files between different voxel programs here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qXVqzJRsg5CXm7A.html

    You could use this same process for sprite sheets. Import the image to MagicaVoxel. But then you’ll want to look at the design from all sides and try to figure out how to adjust for depth. It’s a bit more complicated and requires some careful thinking and practice.

  • @Voxelize

    @Voxelize

    3 жыл бұрын

    I haven't used Piskel before, but having just taken a look, it appears its palette files download in the GPL (GIMP Palette) format, which won't be very useful for this tutorial. You could manually draw a PNG palette strip in Piskel or GIMP, but that would be a lot of tedious work added to the whole process. I picked Aseprite since it's free, lightweight, and can easily give exactly the files you need for MagicaVoxel. GIMP might have a script to export a PNG palette from GPL as well, but I haven't really used GIMP in about 12 years.
