The moment it went from fun goofy game to its own beast.

One thing about that message, it wasn't just a message to Vox Machina. It was three messages in one. The first was to Vox Machina: "We know you're coming." The second was to the people of Whitestone: "Help these people, and this will be your fate." The third was to the players (and audience): "These people are monsters. They play to win, and will let nothing stand in their way."

I feel especially bad for the horses since just a few minutes earlier they also run off a cliff but get saved by a bridge made of magical vines. I'm sure they assumed the same thing would happen and then, splat.

I do think Vax was kinder than you remember - the first "I walk away" didn't come until the Briarwood arc, and really didn't begin in earnest until after that, when Liam's own personal tragedies hit and Vax went darker. Vax was supportive all through the Underdark. I think this was closer to the Vax they knew from pre-stream (we also see this same kinder Vax in the comics based on the prestream adventures.)

Aw, you were so angry at Vex you kinda missed my favourite interaction between them this episode 😆 Also, great job at picking up on the "dinner guests" being body doubles; you're the first person to pick up on that I've seen so far, and I've watched A LOT of reactions.

I know right! Also, so many people judge her without knowing anything about their backstory except that they lost their mom to a dragon. It just makes me realize how many more people need to live by the quote from Walt Whitman, "be curious, not judgmental." I try my best, and I feel I do a decent job of living by this quote, and I feel more people need to. Instead of going, "Vex is a bitch," you should go, "why is she so attached to her brother? What happened?" A lot more productive, both when it comes to reacting to shows, and in relationships.

@@ZeldaWolf2000 But she is being a bitch though, no amount of tragic backstory excuses the way she treats Keyleth here. If she has a problem with her brother catching feelings for a girl, she needs to take it up with him. Which she finally did in this episode, but not until after poking at Keyleths insecurities.

@@hhylobates4098 Keyleth is also a lot sweeter and nicer in the animated show though, so it makes Vex look worse. In the campaign when Vex would get narky at Keyleth it didn't just come from nowhere like it appears to in the campaign.

Yep, a clear message TO Vox Machina about awaits them if they come to Whitestone AND to the people of Whitestone about who NOT to help. Very effective communicators those Briarwoods, a trait you really want in a leader... ;-)

What I love about Vox Machina is that they’re not afraid to make their characters flawed. Makes the journey they go on even better

Vex's reaction to Vax and Keyleth is more from a place of fear. You have to understand that for nearly their entire lives, the only people they could truly count on was each other (and Trinket). She's afraid she's going to lose her brother, the one person she knows she can always rely on. Basically, Vex is terrified of being abandoned. Makes more sense when you get more of the twins' backstory in season 2, but it's been real clear this whole time that the twins rely on each other above all the others.

Vex and Vax are VERY codependent, especially early on. They were on their own for a long time before meeting the rest of VM, and losing the other is their absolute biggest fear. Sometimes that shows itself in less than pretty ways, especially with Vex.

@@CarBENbased yeah, and on audible it's read by Robbie Damon, Liam O'Brien and Laura Bailey! It's awesome! For those wondering, it's called Kith and Kin, and to buy Marieke Nijkamp. I really like her descriptions. She's taught me a lot, because I struggle with those. Also, so many feels! So many people I want to strangle and or punch in the balls! If you know, you know, and hopefully you agree agree with me.

@FandomFuse It is "Percival Fredrickstein von Musel Klossowski de Rolo III." That's why you've seen it spelled this way. Because it's the correct spelling. Even Taliesin pronounces it wrong some of the time. But it IS supposed to be pronounced and spelled: "Klossowski."

I thought Taliesin said it was spelled Klossowski but he pronounces it Kowalski because it makes it easier to rattle off the entire name

@@ashryvern6485 He also said it's SUPPOSED to be pronounced "Klossowski," but that you can pronounce it either way, if only because he pronounces it both ways and it would be rather hypocritical of him to insist it be pronounced one way. If you listen to him rattle off the name in the very early days, like when he first said it, he pronounced it properly. It's only when he rattles it off fast to sound pompous and impressive that he'll pronounce it "Kowalski." Even then, it's not entirely intentional. It might be now, but it wasn't initially.

"Are those body doubles??" Gotta admit, for someone who hasn't seen the original series, that was a very quick catch!

The animators also hated animating horses, so first chance they got to get rid of them.... 😅

They hate all four-legged creatures. Apparently they're especially difficult. That's why Trinket was left at the keep in the show. The more you know!

Yeah. The Briarwood's "message" is cruel and chilling. It was just as shocking in the campaign . They are the evil power couple of season one, and truly evil. They have a really tragic origin story which you get to see later on, but damn..... I've watched the first season about 15 times, and each time I notice something new. I had a villain like them in my last campaign, but it was shocking to the players to be faced with evil that has no remorse, so seeing your reactions to the "message" was cool. Vex really only trusts her brother and sometimes Percy....her level of acceptance and trust for the rest of the team develops over time. Scanlan is , he does have serious side...he is clever and observant. Yes...please watch the making of series. 😊

Great job on a very tough episode. Nicole, you reacted exactly how I did when I watched the campaign and again when I saw the episode. It's incredibly jarring. But don't worry, it's all rainbows and unicorns from here on out! 🤥😝

Remember what I said about the kids in Episode 1 and who voiced them? Yeah, it's true here too. And I know Nicole said she hasn't seen the Campaign. I definitely recommend seeing that specific clip

The suntree showed just how brutal Matt could actually be.

Your cat's tail at 21:46 was kind of eerie with that timing. The black/dark floof was almost like smoke billowing behind you right as Keyleth said "It's us."

OK BUT you noticing that the whole group were body doubles was insane

I love your reactions to these... On a technical note, they killed the horses because they're really hard for animators to draw. (There was a watchalong stream they did with one of the animators who said how much they hated drawing them, and that's the reason Trinket is always left behind.)

In the campaign, their horses were eaten by harpies. So I think they had it easier in the show.

Would love to hear your thoughts/see your reaction on the actual sun tree moment in the campaign

I have to say that for me, the horror of the hangings got ratcheted up tenfold by the sound of the creaking ropes over the otherwise silent credits.

Don’t forget they are also down a cleric too

It was probably a faster death for the horses than the actual campaign (eate by harpies) Though, i think WC might have had the worst death in all 3 campaigns as far as horses go

We do actually know that the dinner guests did have a wonderful supper. it really was a meal fit for a king.

One thing I disliked with them jumping into the Briarwood arc and thus the beginning of Vax and Keyleth, is that it really prevented the early campaign girl power dynamic. One of the things that solidified watching the campaign for me, was when Keyleth and Vex said screw the boys we’re going to look behind this waterfall and you can’t stop us. By jumping directly into the Keyleth/Vax ship you miss a lot of the nuance of Vex’s relationship with arguably Keyleth which is too bad.

I only had time to skip through some of this reaction. Sun tree, dead dog fight mostly. In the previous episode I commented that I wanted to be able to see the female experience the episode without everything being pointed out as it was happening by the male, who has seen the show and watched critical role. I feel this episode was much better based on what I saw. I was more able to experience her reaction to what she was seeing and hear her comments. It felt like I was experiencing her reaction as opposed to her almost being told how to react. I like the guy’s knowledge of the series as a counterbalance if things are blatantly perceived wrong. Excellent reaction today.

If you dont have time to properly watch their videos, maybe your time could be better spent on things other than cooking up '""appreciative"" comments on how a couples interactions are up to your entertainment standards

Kind of sad Zack spoiled the Percy full-name reveal for Nicole. It's a cool moment and the surprise is part of it. Vex has a lot of walls up. It's a shame that you're dismissing her as just being unkind for no reason, all of these characters have more depth than that.

First of all, both of you are way too adorable ;) Now my critique: I really wish both of you would dial down your yapping. I honestly tried to COUNT how many jokes, and/or plot discussions that either of you talked OVER. No one expects you to sit like two statues. But it's so damn frustrating when YOU guys, talk MORE than the actual show you're watching. I bet season 2, episode 3, once and if you ever get there, is gonna be totally ruined by your consistent yapping. I really dig you guys, but it's just impossible to even be bothered following you on this journey thru this series. I gave it a total of 5 episodes, hoping you would learn to maybe shut up for a minute now and then. Worst episode was definitely the first, as it was your classic "I've seen this, now I gotta tell my watching buddy who is who, what is what" Almost as the Miss can't see and understand on her own. Give her some credit dude. The overdramatic reaction and "acting" towards the camera/us, it's just too much. Watch the effing show, no need to try to entertain US, this is a reaction isn't it, NOT a "come watch us talk nonstop and try to be funny". For both to say you're "fans" of CR, you show very little respect towards the show with this nonstop yapping. Would've probably been better if She watched this alone, that would definitely lower the amount of nonstop yapping. But credits where credits due, my dude definitely chilled after a few episodes with the constant "this is X, voiced by this and that, blah blah blah effing BLAH". This episode, Scanlan's fakeout, all the missus can yap on about for 5 minutes is the fucking HORSES. 1. its CARTOON, they are actually NOT real. 2. The point isnt what happened to the damn cartoon horses, but the (fakeout) death of Scanlan. FFS, the priority is so dumb, gotta make a show out of your own reaction, so tiresome and annoying. Love that you're enjoying it and having a good time, but for crying out loud, chill with the yapping, and chill with the "look at us acting and trying to be funny in front of the camera". Best of luck, but I'm out.
