My choice for edc was Pentax Papilio 2, far and close 0,5m focus opens another world of usage, wounds, spikes on feet, insects, plants, jewelry, false money, ... Its like edcing a bino and a magnifying glass in the same size/equipment. I prefer the 6.5x for clarity and bigger pupil, but here in brasil I only found the 8.5x , smaller pupil and clarity and field of view, but very very very good bino... no error, this pentax is incredible

I got myself Bushnell H2O 8x25 for half the price. I wanted to buy the Vortex 8x26, but I saw the Bushnells, smaller, but half the price. I compared them in the store and what i did not like about Vortex is that the exit pupil was not ideal round but had some edges cut off. Huge no no, and while the picture quality seemed equal, i decided to go for cheaper and smaller bushnell. I must admit i did not try them both in low light. Well, the bushnell is also "better than nothing" in low light.

Thanks for a review! Never thought about edc binocular, but now I do. I have 7x50 at home. Did some digging and found Vortex Solo R/T 8x36 monocular. It's in similar size, but larger diameter lense with same magnification + mrad ranging reticle. What is your stance on monocular vs binocular for EDC scenario?

Many thanks for the comment. I have 2 monoculars (one Solo and one tiny Leica) but find that I need a longer eye relief and bigger exit pupil than what they offer to not get a headache after prolonged use (the monoculars are good for quick use like reading a single plate). I used to think weight and form factor would be a problem with binoculars... but then came the Vortex Vanquish and Kowa YF II into the mix. Happy viewing!
