    I have all my bubble levels touch the left line on the levels. This makes it far easier and more consistent rather than having the bubble in the middle.

    Just so you understand, what you have described about what you are doing, that is not level. There is a reason why everybody else in the world takes a moment to center the bubble between the two lines. I happen to know what I am talking about since I am a licensed carpenter, so I am grabbing a level more days than not. But if you would like more proof about what is right, please check out any number of KZread videos on how to use a level.

    @@bigk4755hey, if you have a level on the scope and the gun and they are both perfectly between the lines, you can intentionally mount the scope ring level to be touching one of the lines and it will not impact the level of the actual gun itself. That’s what this guy was trying to say I’m sure

    Very awesome idea to think of a plumb bob, with flashlight.

    It was really simple. Just point a flashlight down the scope. You just need enough distance to be able to clearly see the crosshairs projected against the wall. It can be pretty close, maybe 2-5 feet depending on your scope

    As long as the table is level this method seems solid. What about using a scope leveling tool to make sure it is level on the rifle first (so you don't need the plum bob), and then level the rifle-scope assembly using the carpenter's level?

  • @thegeorgiasportsman9570

    I think I understand what you are saying. The trouble I have is that using this method you end up “chasing the bubbles.” Gravity is a constant and I find using the plum bob is faster and more efficient. Also, when I shoulder the rifle, there is a can’t due to the way the rifle fits in my shoulder. I can account for it using the plumb bob by shouldering the rifle, then rotating the scope so that it is level with the plum bob.

    I ain't a carpenter but I used your vid with a different similar level with more range simply because...it's easier to see movement when the bubble has a bigger tube to travel in. The vortex bubble I'd be squinting for the line where as a longer level if it looks middle its probably middle because if it was off it would be more obvious cuz of tube length. Same reason they got carpenter levels a yard long. But...you don't need 36 inches of level for wall photos or scopes lol

    Hi, You unscrew the single screw on the clamp and then wrap the bubble level around the scope tube. You just have to be careful not to let it slip or it can scratch your scope tube.

    Taking your scope off is a big deal because then you have to re orient the scope both left and right and front and back. Not a problem if you have nothing better to do with your time.

    Hello and thanks for watching. I completely disagree that removing a scope is a big deal, though you are certainly not alone in that sentiment. I used to feel the same way but eventually realized zeroing a scope isn’t rocket science, and I wanted to get past the voodoo belief that people have to never touch a scope. At the end of the day, the bullet tells the truth. If you are on target, great; if not, re-evaluate why it is off and then make the necessary corrections. Any long range precision shooter, hunter, Soldier, etc should be comfortable and able to remove their optic for transportation, replace the scope, and verify zero quickly.

    @@treydenfrench7009 If he did as you suggest, then he just un-leveled his scope in relation to the gun in this video. He said he rotated it, and then tightened down the scope which means he changed it in relation to the rifle. I can see how your rifle doesn't really need to be level, though...because it's the scope that matters when you move elevation or adjust for wind. Your gun could be rotated at a 90degree angle to level, and as long as the scope always is level...does your bullet really care which way the trigger is facing? It only cares where that scope was adjusted to & pointing at and how far above your target to drop or sideways for the wind to move it.

    @@ShastaBean he would have levelled the scope with the action prior to tightening it down. Then level the bubble level on the rifle. And it is important for both rifle and scope to be level for proper tracking vertically and horizontally.

  • @ShastaBean

    @ShastaBean

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@treydenfrench7009 No idea how anyone could assume he was leveling the rifle, as he could have easily shown that or mentioned it, but he didn't. Nothing that he showed on the table had anything to do with the rifle being level that I saw. As far as the rifle being level, it's really only that the sight line is directly over the bore. After getting out a rifle and playing around, I see the importance for the level of the rifle for a top mounted scope...but not to do with the scope tracking, but only for the scope height & sight line over bore. Even with no scope adjustments/tracking, that needs to be centered over the bore, in order for the shot line to cross the sight line with only vertical rise & drop, and no horizontal crossing of the path. So with a 45 degree mounted sight, that's still directly over the bore, it can be sighted in with the gun nowhere remotely near level but still works because the sight line is directly over the bore- and so it doesn't care that the trigger is far off to the side. But with a top mounted scope, it won't be directly over the bore if not level. Which means a miss left or right if not shooting at your zero. Tracking vertically and horizontally of the scope doesn't care if it's level with the rifle, only that the scope itself is always level. As long as the scope is level, should move the barrel up/down/left/right the same amount in relation to the reticle. If I set the rifle on its side, and level the scope, then adjusting the scope up 3 mils, should cause the barrel to still shoot exactly 3 mils higher, etc...regardless of the fact the rifle isn't level.
