Is shockwave generated by those cannon stronger than average sonic boom from jet? I think focused shockwaves like from those cannons can potentially travel for tens of miles and still be pretty loud like those from sonic boom.

Brilliant engineering. For you a leading question- do you think an ignition powered vortex cannon could be used to launch a barrel full of water mist? Could it put out a campfire at a 50m range? I guess it would need to be rapid firing. Firefighting sadly seems to be a growth industry.

Thanks! I think a water cannon would work beter, where you launch an amount of water rather than vapor. With a vortex cannon there is mostly a shock wave coming out of the barrel, not so much gass volume. Forinstence me and my friends have been standing in frond of the cannons at around 5 meters distance, and it just feels like a ferm slap on the butt, but we wern't being pushed over.

Yes, we have been standing in front of it (with our ears plugged) at about 5 meters distance, and it felt like someone hit me on the butt with a tennis racket. Also, we shot it at a tree at about 300 meters, which made the branches rattle like crazy!

Awesome!!!👍 I especially liked the sound it made after the boom that of the vortex ripping through the atmosphere and would love to hear it without the music I’m sure nothing beats experiencing it live!😜 Just curious have you tried hitting any targets? No I never noticed a ground effect. It's completely legal and the neighbors love it!

Thanks! Never tried because it would take to long to fill with my hydrogen generator. I tried it in a normal pipe and H2 has less jules per liter so the bang is less loud and higher pitched.

I wonder if you filled the cone with argon gas if it would make an intense flash? I imagine it might

Do you have some idea about how far your vortex rings can travel? I know its hard to put a number to it because it's dependent factors beyond your control (ambient temperature, barometric pressure, etc) but some indication of how far they travel would be interesting to know.

Well, there are people who have heard the rings come over at a distance of 6km (3.7mi) with quite some energy, so it will travel extremely far!

Well, imagine how easy it would be to push trough that clingfilm. That is the amount of fors that will be added to the pressure. A steel plate would do much more, but that's way to dangerous.....

Does the shape of the cone is what makes the the loud boom or is it used just to make the vortex ring or both?

It's to focus the explosive energy into One direction to generate a high power Shockwave. The shockwave makes the vortex.

All speeds are the same because that is determined by the speed of the explosion. Moisture has an effect but that is not detectable with the naked ear.

"50 litre is the maximum volume you can fire in the Netherlands". That fact has undoubtedly come in handy when the town Karens arrive with police and pitchforks.

Yes we made it ourselves . We just copied it from pictures online, I'm not sure what is optimal and I don't think it needs to be very accurate. The big vortex cannon has an opening of 0.8meter and is 3meter long.

No overthrow, but at around 15 meters/45ft it feels like someone hits you on the back with a flat hand.

It should be great to have more precise images of the exhaust wave , at very low speed , just for curiosity. May be with some colorant into the cavity , to have a better view of what's happening ?

With your pipe size I suggest a 50 gallon barrel. But that is ridiculously large ans dangerous and expensive. Cut all your sizes in half and you would have the same size as my largest one.

Yes you spotted that right! It fills a pipe with soapy water until it touches a glow plug and gives a loud bang, than it starts again. 1 bang every 2 minutes all day long! Pure madness LOL 😂

I've had this idea of combining fuel-air explosives with shaped charges to create a focused and directed hypersonic overpressure wave: Using compressed air (or nitrous oxide for extra oomph:) forcing fuel through a precise nozzle arrangement to create a shaped fuel-air cloud within a wire lattice of spark points, coordinated to fire in a specific pattern that ignites the mixture into a focused detonation wave. Please give it a go!

this is called boga or lantaka in the pgilippines it is put by carbide rock or use some cans or bamboo to make a lantaka and put water and light it or some use cans and wrap it and add plastic bottle and lighter and denatured alcohol to make ignite the gas boga is used on new years eve in the philippines most people use bogas in province and barangays or anywhere

Nee dat is niet nodig. Een aantal jaren geleden hadden we veel wind en dan merkte we wel dat als we het kanon niet gelijk afvuurden, dat we wel wat gas verloren, verder dus nooit problemen mee.

I tried that, but that doesn't do anything. The shock wave just travels trough the smoke. This only works if the vortex is slower. But good thinking! 👍

Het mag alleen tijdens oudjaarsdag, en het maximum volume van de verbrandingskamer mag niet groter zijn dan 50 liter. Dat zijn de regels voor carbid schieten, die hier ook op van toepassing zijn aangezien we acetylene gas gebruiken dat het zelfde is als carbid. Regels zijn te vinden op gemeente sites.

Ooooh dat is zo cool. Maar het valt mij op dat de kleinere cannonnen net zo hard klinken als het grootste cannon. Heeft dat te maken met de stijfheid van de hoorn? Of ligt dat aan de afstelling van het gas mengsel? Of is het de verhouding van de lengte van de hoorn tot de ketel? Ik zal graag een cannon willen bouwen voor nieuwjaar en dan niet te groot maar wel heel hard geluid en gericht naar voren en zo min mogelijk naar opzei of naar achteren. Thanks! De grote klinkt echt het hards maar door de langere pijp klinkt hij lager en dat word anders opgenomen door de camera uiteindelijk klinkt alles in de opname ongeveer even hard omdat alle klappen de microfoon tot de max belasten.

Yeah my neighbors are gonna feel pain from this video. When I let my 800 watts surround sound stereo that is equipped with 2 24 inch pioneer speakers and 5 inch tweeters in each of them plus I have 2 Bose speakers equipped with 10 inch woofers and 2 inch tweeters . Since I had some neighbors who felt it was okay for them to let this New Year’s Eve 2020 sound like cannons being blown over my house this year. Sure I don’t mind the fireworks but not from 8 pm until 1:30 am New Year’s Day. Right after midnight it should have stopped but they didn’t and it seemed like they were intentionally blowing them up right above my house. Pay back a bitch. 😂
