J'ai remarqué que ce sont les afro descendants qui adore notre culture.pendant que nous même africain meprisons notre culture. Je me rappel quand mon père me parlait de notre culture quand j'étais gamins. Je voyais cette culture comme néfaste. Aujourd'hui mon père n'ai plus et j'ai pris le temps de connaître cette grande culture.. C'est un grand héritage

Haitians are the descendants of the people of Benin. Do you know who the African Americans are descendants from? Can you please tell me?

It's a little off the west coast of Africa. It's a french colony. I heard Haitians are the desendants of the people of Benin.

I am confident in saying that most African American ancestry came from West Africa and some of South Africa. there were people that came from- Senegal, Mali, Ghana, Benin, Nigeria, Niger, Cameroon, Rep of Congo, Angola, etc! there were many reasons why the Europeans chose to separate peoples from their own kin; 1 of these reasons is that by separating people of the same tribe & kingdom is so that there weren't any uprisings.

and sailed to the islands in the caribbean. the slaves were put on plantations and were also restricted from practicing their religion- Haiti practices Voodoo but they had to mask their practices. The slaves in the french colony of Haiti made their masters believe that they were practicing Catholicism- but in reality- the slaves equated certain voodoo spirits to certain catholic saints. this secrecy helped Voodoo in the new world to stay strong.

@MrJordanio0825 Off the coast of West Africa suggests that it is not integral to the land mass of West Africa. Republique du Benin is West Africa in between southwest Nigeria & Togo. I know where it is & I've been there.

You are very knowledgeable. This is how slavery started when the Kingdom of Dahomey traded my ancestors for material things. Well, my ancestors were sent to America. The carribean was not the only place they were sent. this could be the reason why great parts of Africa are so very poor.

Est-ce que c'était un "concours de fétiches" ? C'est étonnant qu'on vous ait laissé filmer ça. Je crois qu'on vous aurait demandé de ne pas le faire, il y a quelques années.

And so you could be a combination of different peoples. I don't think that todays African Americans are a pure descendant of one people, one tribe, one kingdom- but because the lucrative slave trade and need to produce the ultimate strong slave, slave masters would mate slaves without regards to their kinship, religion, etc! I hope this answers your question:) Im actually studying to become a historian, so feel free to ask any more questions and i will try to answer!!!

DjKelavey. I find ur approach to my answer very rash, to say that i am incorrect instead of saying that i have a point. please reread my comment...as it says that it is possible to retrace a person's ancestry- the point that i was trying to make was that supervirtuouswoman might find out that she has a number of dif tribal ancestors that make up her own dna. so there you go- i am aware of the technological advances that can determine ones ancestry, genetics, etc.

Voodoo, Voodoun, Hoodoo, the gods are not called god or gods but The entities they pray to and ask for help and guidance are known as the Loa, One of the reasons the Voodoo practiced here in the states was so easily mixed with Catholicsm (sp) Was because the practitioners of Voodoo found similarities between the Loa and the Saints.

I thought it was the same thing; West African Vodun, Haitian Voodoo, and Yoruba Ifa. I thought the only difference was Haitian voodoo was syncretized with Catholicism.
