►The heater blower motor provides all the airflow from your vents. All automakers stick their blower motor somewhere in the dashboard, and Volvo made it theirs, easily accessible behind the glove box. That placement makes your replacement process straightforward. You should be looking for a replacement if your fan stops working, as it's a primarily self-contained unit. Without a functioning motor, your air conditioning, heating, and defrosting system won't function as intended, leaving you too hot or cold all the time.

Mine is still there. Seems to be the heavy rubber thing conforms pretty well to the unibody and there's just barely any space. I took apart the white cover of the resistor and one of the solder joints is a dark gray but no way am I going to just reheat the joint and expect all is well....

Great video. I would be real nervous to reassemble everything without checking if the blower still works. Imagine you had to deassemble cause the blower did not work! So much time lost.
Need some guidance please-1) my fan speed dial has a few set points where it fluctuates the fan speed periodically. 2) when my ac is working hard to blow air at highest speed, it has a strong vibration sound and the airflow is not very good for highest fan speed. Cabin air filter regularly changed. Wondering if for sure these are the two components in this video that I need to replace-07 XC90. TIA!

Question. 22 June 2024 Currently replacing the resister and blower motor on my 2005 Volvo XC 90. Can the new installed parts be turned on and tested prior to complete reassembly??

You could certainly test the blower once its plugged in to the vehicle before fitting it back into the HVAC housing it lives in!
Great Video Mike, just replaced both motor & resistor in my Wifes 2010 XC 90, it was definitely the problem as nothing worked at all, but with the fan on high the airflow doesn't seem to be there, any thoughts?

Hi Marco, if you have not already, check out that cabin filter and make sure it is not clogged up!

@@fcpeuro thanks Mike, I did replace the filter, it like there's an obstruction somewhere, took out the dash vents to check it's a bit of a mystery, not sure if there is any reset required?
Boy im glad i have a P80 volvo .... way easier to work on then those newer volvos

It actually wasn’t that hard. I did it on my mom’s 2011 xc90 before this video was posted. I’m an “intermediate” level mechanic with it comes to stuff like this lol.
