I bought my mk3 08 v70 2ltr manual diesel in march. Sailed through the MOT with 184 k miles. I've got FSH , 17 stamps in service book for £ 1,975 . Had no problems with it and does upto 65 mpg. Best car I've ever had in 59yrs of motoring. It looks and drives like a new one. The deal of the 21st century.

That's a great deal, Ken. Cars in the UK are so much cheaper than they are in the Netherlands. I wonder why that is. I was looking at some 2L options and did consider going for a diesel but the taxes on the diesels are getting high on the Continent. Also, the V70 is a heavy car and I wonder if the 2L produces enough power for that kind of weight. But I guess the diesel produces more torque than the petrol version and that would help to keep it moving along at a reasonable pace.

Hi Ken, thanks for your comment because I’m picking up a D5 tomorrow with 185k (265000km) , fsh 17 stamps. I was really nervous as I’ve not bought a car with over 100k miles before but your comment has given me some reassurance. Cheers! Hope it treats you well.

I purchased an 09’ V70 3.2l for $7,900 US. It had 79,000 miles on it. All of its annual service done were at the Volvo Dealership. Apparently only 4,500 V70’s came to the US in 2009, the XC70 was more popular here. Luckily wagons “estate cars” are unpopular here in the states so finding them at low prices, low miles is fairly easy. Things I’ve had issues with: Radiator Control Fan modules failed - $200 Tires were cupping slightly - replaced the rear shock absorbers, front struts and control arms - $650. Tailgate struts don’t hold up - $85 Other than those issues, the car is rock solid performs better than our Lexus

Literally looking at a 2008 V70 3.2 with 136k miles for $6500. Literally looking at it to replace my girlfriend's current Volvo XC. I drive a lexus also and this will be her third volvo. They all seem to better than my Lexus in many ways, especially space and ride comfort 😅

Im actually looking at two Dutch V70 2.4D’s. Hopefully they will check out. For the money you get an amazing spacious, comfortable and safe car! And its quite reliable as well. So fingers crossed that soon I will join the Volvo Mafi… I mean family! PS: Check the PCV valve/breather. These go bad on the 2.5T. Best way to test it is a glove placed over the oil filer cap. If it sucks the glove in, its working okay. If it tries to blow the glove away, its bad and needs to be replaced ASAP!

Funny thing is I`m looking for one of these right now, and currently owning an A2 1.6FSI. Gonna keep the A2 probably in the garage for an eventual electric conversion in the next few years, can`t convince myself to sell it as I would get liitle money for it. Anyway great video and happy motoring.

I bought a 2007(older version, mk2 I assume), V70, 2.0t, petrol, 225k klm., partial service history, €1,100. Spent €900 on service, oil, filters, timingbelt, brake discs front, bushings, links. It smelt of dog, cleaned it thoroughly myself, inside and out. Running great. These cars, diesel or petrol sell very cheaply in Ireland. Annual road tax is €710. A 2.0 diesel 2008 onwards would be probably about half the price in road tax, so one of those is my next car. But the 2.0t petrol sounds lovely! I believe it has a low compression turbo, so not the fastest, but no real turbo lag.

Yes, the turbo has almost no lag. I was just thinking about that the other day and experimenting with the lag factor. And I can certainly recommend the 2.5T. It sounds like you should be able to scoop one up for a fair price in Ireland. Good luck!

I bought my 2010 V70 R-Design for € 4500, three years ago, with 300k kilometers on it. It drove well but did do a 4 wheel brake job (calipers rusty), added new tires, and replaced the blue Volvo stickers in the middle of the steering wheel and front grille. It was also missing the cargo cover so picked up one of them new from the dealer. Only really remedial problems encountered was the tailgate latch which would stick and not latch (replaced), valve on AC compressor which delayed the AC from blowing cool immediately (replaced), ignition switch which would take three or four pushes before starting the car (replaced), and tensioner pulley on the engine accessory belt which froze up and threw the belt (replaced that and thermostat). It's been trouble free since and is my main dog hauler.

Have a V70 2001, old Betty as I call it. Simple maintenance and refill the oil slightly every few months as it consumes a bit. It starts, idles and drives very well. It’s on 356k-ish km and hope to keep it longer. Some clearcoat flaking off, valve tick and clutch whines at bitepoint in cold weather, but that’s it. If I manage to keep it past 30 years it’ll be considered a veteran in Sweden and it’ll be taxfree (but still need to maintain upkeep and MOT).

this was one of the vids that made me decide to buy an almost exactly same v70! Mine is a 2010 2.5FT, and 253000 km done. Black metallic with black interior and half skin seats, carries the Momentum executive package.. best car ive ever had to date.. The engine is a petrol/ethanol (E85) engine and that makes this car classed as a environmentally friendly car witch has its taxes severly lowered. Im very satisfied with this one.

Ik heb zelf nu net de V70 ll 2.4 licht rood met mat zilvergrijze spiegelkapen. gekocht met nog net geen 300.000 kilometer. Hij heeft altijd zijn beurtjes gehad bij de vorige eigenaar. Dus ik zit de komede jaren zeker goed!! Wat een auto zeg. Eem echte ikea cruiser👍😊

2010 D5 R-design. Love it.

I own a 2001 version for 11 years now. Petrol 2.4 170Hp, 400.000km. Drove half of it myself. I maintain it well and I'm spending about € 400 per year extra on top of normal maintenance to keep it in perfect shape. I cannot buy an other car for this money and it still drives perfect.

That's great. It will be interesting to see how far it goes. I've heard numerous examples of these cars doing more than 700,000 km.

@@vanholland7787 As long as you have a car with a real Volvo engine,preferably a 2.4 or 2.5 5 cilinder, you'l be fine.

@@frits1463 Yes, I agree. I did at one point consider a 2.0 liter but a friend convinced me to go for a 5 cylinder based on the power to weight ratio factor. I'm glad I followed his advice.

Yes, it is a great platform. The car has been getting a lot of use since the video was made and still doesn't miss a beat.

After your preamble I was expecting some major issues but those are pretty much maintenance at that mileage. Makes me even more interested in getting one myself.

Yes, it's certainly a solid and reliable car. I can highly recommend one, a 2.5T with a 6 speed manual. It would be great if you find one which recently had the timing belt changed.

have a v70 2.5t myself but its a 2004 model bought for 2000 euro spent about 1000 on it, 280000 km so far very nice car feels like a tank.

Hey, sprinkle baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) on the seats and carpets and leave overnight. Then hoover it off. It will get rid of the dog smell.

Thanks, Jon Jon. But it seems as though we got rid of the smell. But I'll keep the baking soda trick in mind and, you never know, perhaps I will try it out some day.

great video Van Holland. I am seriously thinking of buying either a V70 or V60. A later model V70 would be ideal but for looks and price maybe the V60. I've owned a JDM spec S80 and a JDM V60 in New Zealand, the S80 top-spec prob the best car i ever owned. Are you a Kiwi? i'm sure you are.

Thanks, deepfryblue. I can definitely recommend a late model V70 with 2.5T petrol. But it sounds like you're well versed with the Volvos. I just had a look and was surprised to see there's a few for sale in NZ, though some look a bit pricey and others look like bargains. It's amazing to see such a range of prices for the V70. Anyway, good luck with your hunt. And I'm actually from Australia, not NZ, but close.

im 17 and next year I will be able to take my licens. And im thinking of buying a v70 2012. In Sweden they are about 5-7000 dollars. Is it worth it for me? I will be able to work up the money or is the car done for. The miles on the cars im looking at is about 25-30k miles. So what yall think?

I'm not sure about the XC70. I haven't driven one. And I wasn't really looking at them when I was on the hunt for mine. I just assumed the V70 would be more reliable than the XC70. But I could be wrong. Still, if I was looking at 4WD Volvos I think I would go for the XC90. But, again, I don't know much about the XC70.

T5 is better from d5

front wheel bearings is a weak point, porly made design make them fail quite often, water and salt is the catalyst for this, making the bearing rust to under the seal and damage it, parts are not to expensive but with labour it adds up, our D2 has some engine problems not yet resolved .over all a vell made car

I had betwen may 2019 and beginning of oktober 2021 V70 Business Momentum 2.5 Flexlfuel 200HP 2009👍 I changed by one secondhand cars salon on V50 Momentum D2 2011👎, well I dont like it. I will sale it. I missing my 5 cylinder bensin V70 Good luck with your älgen 🤞

Yes, there is something a bit special about the feel and sound of the 5 cylinder petrol. And with the turbo and 6 speed manual... that's a solid combination.

Omg, in my country a v70 costs from 11 000 to 15 000 euros, at the same mileage

Voor 7000 euro kun je ook een behoorlijke knakenbak verwachten. Typisch voorbeeld van iemand die andermans ellende heeft gekocht.

The MK3 is a pretty nasty design. The rear is pretty horrible with all the angles. The MK2 is far nicer.

I have to be honest this Volvo is boring. you buy this car you might as well drive yourself to the morgue.

Drive yourself to the morgue. Hilarious. Volvo's are built for practicality and comfortable driving, given the choice between that and style I'll the former every time. I once owned a BMW 320D Estate, trying to bridge that gap between style and practicality, it was objectively the worst car I've ever owned. at 110,000 miles the turbo died, so the car just lost ALL power. The driver side window mechanism packed up. The AC died. It sprang an oil leak. The back seats didn't fold down far enough to make the boot space a flat interior, speaking of back seats, everyone who ever sat in them said they were the most uncomfortable seats ever to be put in a car. I do a lot of road trips with friends and it got to the point that they were bringing piles of padding (Cushions etc...) just to get through a 2 hour journey. After one journey my Auntie even begged for some other family members to go out of their way and give her a lift home so that she didn't have to sit in those BMW seats again. Since having a Volvo people have remarked and exclaimed about how much more comfortable the ride is... I'll never have a BMW again. Why not an Audi? Well, because Audi's are only famous for one thing, and that's being driven by pricks. Volvo are top of the market for practical cars, at 42 I'm not expecting to pass away any time soon, but I imagine given the reliability of the engine I'll still have this same Volvo when I do, so yes; It'll drive me to the morgue, there's more than enough boot space, and it goes down flat! :D
