Volvo V70 MK2 Complete Headlight Replacement - How To Remove Lights and Front Bumper 00-07 V70 YES

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today I replaced the headlights on V70 YES as after 296k and several attempts to polish them back up they are visibly too dull to pass the MOT and to be honest I'm glad because they were getting useless on unlit roads at night.
The lights are TYC which is a Taiwanese aftermarket replacement costing £110 each. My first choice is OEM but with 4 cars to run on a budget I couldn't justify spending £500 for a genuine pair on what is unfortunately now my least used car.

  • @IAMASPANNER

    4 жыл бұрын

The only bits I had break were removing the side marker by twisting the wrong way, damaging the tab you use to remove, and the sort of guide tunnels that lead to the manual adjustment. So neither of these things are much of an issue. The plastic was very brittle even though temperatures pretty high so I'm putting it down to age of the car (approximately 16 years old).

Thanks Colin, I think I was using an iPhone 11 at the time which recorded in 1080p. My current videos are 4K. If I recall correctly one side of the car is easier than the other to change bulbs, you can change the bulbs without removing the assemblies but it is fiddly and I’ve often not got the headlight bulbs fitted straight. I did polish the lenses 3 times before replacing them but I never lacquered them which may be why they didn’t last. They were close to failing the MOT so I just replaced them this time as I don’t have the patience many others are blessed with.

@@IAMASPANNER Hi Tolly, yes changing bulbs is a nightmare, the passenger side (UK) model isn't too bad as it's simply a job of removing the airbox which allows easy access, but the offside is a nightmare, because of an electronic box of some sort which just makes it almost impossible to get access to the bulb with any control over what you can do ! But the side light needs changing too, and they are even more tricky to get out ! So overall it will save a lot of stress by dropping the bumper ! So thanks once again, done it before, but needed a refresher to remind me how to do it 😊

I’ve had a 2007 2.0TDI 170bhp Passat B6 saloon and loved it at the time but I didn’t know about the oil pump recall and my engine seized. Personally it would be the V70 for me but that’s more because of my experience with mine now having 298k on the clock and I’ve not had any issues that weren’t my fault in 66k miles. The Passat has an electric parking brake whereas the V70 has a hand brake which is pretty useless if you live somewhere hilly (like any drum in disc parking brake). If there’s anything specific between the 2 you’d like my opinion on just ask.

I’ve lost a few sidelight bulbs in headlamp assemblies before and have dropped the dipped beam before but managed to get it back, it’s not great is it.

I imagine you’ll have sorted it by now, did you remove the bulbs complete with the holder?

Good guide, but really dumb way to transfer part between the old lamp to the new by PUSCHING your new lamp to the floor! To much of a risk getting scratches all over the surface!! Otherwise, good guide

Thanks Jonas, that's what the carpet is for, I always put one down for jobs like this or bumper removals on newer cars.

You could have just sanded it down and polished. While the video is informative, the replacement was not needed.

I still have a pair of original headlights I’d like to restore just didn’t have the patience back then, think it would’ve been an MOT failure. The aftermarket ones in the video are already fogging up inside 🤦🏻‍♂️

@@IAMASPANNER That's such a shame. For $250 per headlight you can get the original one from Valeo. I got it for a whopping $30! I bought a slightly dull set that I will polish on the outside and clean on the inside. Costs me in total including purchase only 70 dollar for 2!
