    the 6 cylinder engine was much better sounding,it s a bit pity the fact that the companies are following a dramatic downsize at their engines.

  • @fundiver198

    @fundiver198

    Maybe. But for a small company like Volvo its important to simplify their production. Also when Volvo had the Yahama made V8, everybody raved about it, but nobody actually bought one. Even in the US with their cheap gasoline, dealers had to heavily discount the V8 to clear their stocks. So it makes totally sense, that Volvo say "enough is enough" and concentrate on engines, people will actually go out and buy. And when they can get 400 hp from the 4-cylinder with a hybrid system, what is really the problem? If its just the lack of sound, that is frankly a silly complaint.

    Thank you Thomas, yet another excellent concise review! I am of course partial to the Rebel Blue V60 sportwagon (sexvagn) version; I have a rebel '15 V60 T6 R-Design with sublime 3.0 T6 inline 6 cylinder. Difficult for me to appreciate the new raucous Drive-e replacement, no matter how much horsepower, except for perhaps the lighter weight over the front wheels for less nose dive, maybe quicker reflexes on the tight curves . A slight savings in average fuel consumption hardly compensates for the loss in engine torque, sound and general refined character. My advice: find a 2016 Polestar with the 6 cylinder (unless you have the tax penalties), or wait a few months for the 2017 V90 T6-e R-Design, for probably similar money. That modernized roomier Volvo (in Bursting Blue) is a better all around car, though unfortunately also with the little 2.0L 4 cylinder engine like this Polestar (less HP but can opt for hybrid); that's the only choice going forward. Ciao!

    acchaladka I doubt there disappointed with Polestar sales. That's why they make such a small amount. 750 units is smaller than Lamborghini production. They will sale every Polestar they make. Reliability wish my car has been great. Not a issue in 1 year of ownership. This is a older platform so all the problems have been worked out. The 2017 has the new 4 cylinder so I can't comment on that, but my inline 6 has been bulletproof. Now the XC90 is selling very well and the new XC60 will be on sale this fall and it looks like a hit. Great things are happening for Volvo

    Great review, thank you! I've been looking at this vs Golf R, here in Canada. I'm single and don't need the cargo space but I love everything about the Polestar except the price and fuel economy. (And I own a Golf TDI so that's another strike against as I'm bored of the Golf.) The Polestar sounds great and looks great in blue; I'm looking at V60 over S60 and thinking to wait for the new infotainment. Finally, I'd like to see you do a review on Colorado /Alberta mountain roads to see if you still think that scenery is 'best in the world'. ;)

    Thomas - thank you for another of your great review on this Volvo. I have never owned one yet! But I had a Volvo sport type wagon for rental while my Porsche were in warranty work. It was a good driving car (in the 97-98). Still remember I noticed the response on the interior electronic buttons(a/c, radio etc) are slower than a German cars.(Mercedes and Porsche) My thought of a Volvo image has been a family, some what conservative type car.(1980's). As my first car was a BMW 325e, it was a very good driving car.(solid built, functional and sound good on engine Rev). But this v70 look pretty good, sound pretty good too from your video demo. I think I may go test drive it to see and let you know.... definitely a wagon for my choice. Btw, how is this v70 compare to a Subaru Outback 3.5 6 cylinder ? Please let me know your opinion...

    Superb scenery, great road. And good video, and interior detail. As always. Many thanks. You ask for opinions? My opinion: I like the car; I prefer the Estate body-shell; I don't go for the gloomy, cramped and low-looking interior, and I prefer a lighter interior; 60,000 Euro seems a lot of money to pay for an 'old-generation-car'; a really sporty car with a great noise, but on really bad back roads or on bad surfaced city streets at low speeds, surely the ride must be uncomfy? Many thanks, Thomas - great work.

    Great review Thomas! I should be picking up my V60 Polestar in Rebel Blue next week. In North America, the windshield heater is not included so we are lucky in that we won't have to deal with that visibility issue you described in the video. Finally, I'm glad to hear you liked the sound of the new Polestar Engine. There's a lot of Volvo purists screaming about this very topic. The old Polestar had a V6 so of course it's going to sound a little more fuller, but the 2017 model sounded pretty good here. Did you ever get a chance to drive the older Polestar? Schöne Grüße aus Kanada!

    The old Polestar had one of the nicest (inline) 6 cylinder turbo engines ever produced, and sounding amazing with the variable sport exhaust. This Drive-e 2.0 4 cylinder with turbo and supercharger barely out-produces the single turbo AMG 2.0. It certainly doesn't sound as good as the inline 6, or the AMG 4, for that matter. The expense implies there is something more refined/premium under the hood, but sadly there is not.

    Looking to make the '18 V60 Polestar make next car within the next few years. I just bought a Civic EX-T earlier this year, so I gotta wait a bit. It just doesn't do it for me though. I'm a sucker for a nice sport station wagon! I hear some people say that Volvo won't be having the Polestar trim after 2018 because of the branch off. That's why I'd be looking at a used. Is that true?

  • @lastnamefirstname520

    @lastnamefirstname520

    5 жыл бұрын

    Travis Sellers Hi it is true. 2018 was the last series, the 2018 cars are numbered and production of s/v combined was 1500 worldwide. I have a V60 polestar from 2018. I do recommend it. Entertainment is a bit outdated, but it drives really well and is extremely comfortable, especially compared to my 2017 wrx. Its not a raw sports car more like a powerfull luxury cruiser : ) But its ultrasafe and perfect for a family with dogs. 2018 is also differenr to this car, it has a carbon spoiler pack which provides 40% more downforce (and the sidesplitter just looks ill) and also carbon mirrors. The one thing is that they are extremely expensive to maintain only original parts are available (set of front brake rotors is over 1000 usd) for example. Some engine parts are not available anymore (for example the turbo is not made anymore) and so on. Bare in mind also that minimum rim size is 19” and 19 or 20 winter tires are not exactly cheap.....

    Which colour would I pick? Those prices, neither! Sorry but price they’re asking just can’t be justified at almost 3 times the price of a S60....I mean if they’re we’re going from (and the presenter used the Mercedes comparison) a e350 to e55 and saying it’s double the price...we get that..However, a 70hp upgrade, with a moderate interior (manual steer column??) and exterior upgrades...at $85K US or $103k CND Volvo is a little full of themselves imho. Swedes..go figure.

    Why is it when you listen to a German explain something, you feel like you are about to be shot by firing squad at dawn. Nice volvo by the way

    Interior is so boring, just compare it to Audi A4... but in overall aspect this car is great, really good choice imo. Oh... and this little display, please make it a little bit bigger. Volvo's multimedia is outdated, we're in 2016.

    I own S60CC T5 2017 (with no touch display and stuff) and it's not even close to Mercedes or Audi interiors. It's good car for it's price, probably one of the best choices, if not the best... but WTF are you talking about? What does new Volvo series has to do with the fact, that Volvo interior is outdated compared to Audi/Mercedes/BMW? When new S60 series will come, Audi, Mercedes and BMW will advance again. Still love my S60CC, i'll never exchange it for Audi or Mercedes.

    kordax mint I mean that the current s60/v60 are from 2010 and only have got a little facelift in 2013 and thats why it look so old and isn't a big competitor to the current c-class mb... But when the NEW s60/v60 will come out mb, bmw and audi will have a very big competitor.
